  • I was having a look at your Oak frame the other day Henry, looks lovely.

  • DO IT! It is awesome!

Its super versitile. Super fast for innercity riding. Super low maintenance comparing with a geared MTB. Its a great winter hack (has fender mounts for proper full fenders). And leaving geared cyclocrossers in the dust/must on it is just one of the better feelings you can encounter in this univers.
With little change in parts it could even be light tourer.

Nah you just gotta htfu and use a road bike on an off road trail. That's how real men do it ;P

Does look like serious fun though.

  • Dick Power

Is that a real frame builder??

  • Google it with filters off and show us what you get.

  • I'm nearing completion on my current bikes. For my next one i'd like to do a tourer. I've trawled the net for inspiration. I'm thinking a nice sturdy steel frame with loads of attachment points, beyond that no firm idea yet. I'm thinking nu-retro in style, budget not huge so i'll be using ebay, local traders, mates etc. Any suggestions from you guys would be cool.

    speaking from experience? :P

  • ^^ I did a budget tourer a few years back based on an old ridgeback steel hybrid (mid-90's), it had a TIG welded Tange Cro-mo frame and even had LowRider bosses on the forks.
A ropey old hybrid made from decent steel is a good place to start, a mate of mine has a reynolds tubed Raleigh Pioneer which he stripped & clear powdercoated. IIRC it's lugged 501 with 2 sets of eyes on the back for guards and rack.

    Yup.

6 day races and all that old school track.

  • Made a few new changes; tyres, saddle, saddle bag, bar tape, and still playing around with the position of almost everything to find the most comfortable fit:

    And in fully functional mode:

  • doesn't the bag also attach to the saddle? doens't look very stable... probably is fine..

  • no it doesn't, but those two metal tubes that attach to the bracket go all the way around the bag, and it feels pretty secure. Supposedly it's good for 4kg, and I don't usually put near that much in it either, so fingers crossed it will be ok.

  • built in Brighton and used by one of the coaches at Preston Park velodrome. Not light, the forks especially, and the forks have been drilled and the paint is really thick, I may get it repainted, as the frame itself is really nice.

  • buy Pepe's wheels!

  • Haha, he knows about them. Needs sealed bearings.

Someone still needs to buy them.

  • u home?

  • yes, come and get that stem when you ready

Is that chain or chainring really worn? It kinda looks like I can see light between the two, although it might be the photo.

  • And so the winter-bike is up.

    What rack is that?

Yeah. I was looking at old steel frames. I had a 90's Ridgeback, but that went for scrap years ago. My commuter is a 501 frame but thats staying as it is.

  • New (secondhand) ellipse wheels. Soon to have omnomnoms,a new chain and chainring.
Might get some new forks and stem eventually.

  • I had to buy them.

  • Now you need USE seat post to go with it

what bars are they? change the seatpost, not the stem!

  • Oh yeah, that too. That was from when I had wheels on that were black dodicis to purple halo hubs with purple nipples too. I even have purple bars, but never put them on.
I think the bars are BLB mini me's. Definitely BLB ones anyway.

  • Worked on my Aende a bit, just getting parts ready then wait until i can afford the rest, i'm sanding it down ready to be repainted again and do it properly this time with primer and clear coat, just going to do a nice simple 2 colour fade, maybe go safe with dark blue?

Also working on my low pro as well, very exited about this, just trying to decide if i should build the wheels with track hubs and the original Campagnolo rims or go for some more modern rims, also getting some gater skins and bmx pedal straps

Just picked this lot up today for 155 quid, pretty sweet deal! I'm going to put them on my Steamroller, wont be needing the 42t messenger chain ring, any one interested?
