OK, advice needed. With the bars angled so the bottom of the drops is parallel to the floor (correctly) the shifters at an awkward angle. There is a textured clamp area and even with the lever clamped right at the top of this the hoods still angle down...
Do I angle the bars up or just clamp the shifters above the textured area?

^ Personally, I think on a modern road bike that having a flattish hood area is more crucial for comfort. I think the parallel drop area applies more to older bikes which tended to be ridden in the drops more.

Could probably turn the bars up a tad more and maybe move the levers up a bit? as long as you can reach the levers in the drops, tis' all you need i guess

wow, this looks awesome! i was thinking the same - putting compact drops on my 29er. these are 29er supermotos, right? i currently have big apple's on, hate the reflective strip, these are supposed to be lighter?
also, you must be using road specific discs to go with drop levers? -

Yeah, this is right. Modern compact drops will hardly ever be horizontal at the bottom. the tops should be flat with a fairly good transition to the hoods.
Personally, the position of the levers in your photo is fine, I'd just pull it up so the tops are flattish. -

I find with drops at a practical height its more comfortable to have them angled up a bit anyway, feels more natural to hold

why is it that every campagnolo seat bolt I've ever tightened snaps!?
1) Run a tap through the female end to chase the threads.
2) Grease the male threads.
3) Make sure the bolts are not bottoming out, if they are .. get a different bolt, or file the female half down in lengthThe last one is the most common cause for them snapping

Right, going to call it a day. I've just got cabling, chain and bar tape left to do now. I'm loving it so far! Thanks for the advice guys, nearly happy with the bar/shifter set-up but needs to be ridden before knowing for sure.

I'd agree with shifting the levers upwards..

Yeah, I agree too. But sadly, whoever designed these bars seems to disagree with all of us! The levers are currently right on the upper limit of the textured clamp areas! What to do... hmm...

sheathy it looks great. That first picture with all the components laid out gets me excited too. Bravo.

That's what my shifters look like on the bars...for reference, since adding the new stem, I have rotated the bars down a little

Good to read about hood/ bar tips. I'm trying to set mine up again so they are more comfortable.

also, you must be using road specific discs to go with drop levers? Thanks a lot. The super motos are indeed 29er and pretty light too. I don't remember the exact weight, but I was able to fit tyre liners and the total ended up 10 grams more than stock maxis ignitors. And they roll so so good.
I use long travel levers for the stock calipers. works a charm. -
