  • I thought the 7801 used the deeper splined aluminum body that Shimano released to stop anyone using anything other then the matching Dura Ace cassette - called an improvement to the free hub design allowing alloy free hubs! I may be wrong but you should do a search to find out, as there was for sure one of the 7800 series wheel sets they did this too which kind of limits the wheels appeal

  • So they do. Only 10 speed compatible aswell, which is also quite annoying...

  • yeah does seem a bit "marshmallowy", did you pull it really tight erik?

    Lovely steed though!

its that stupid 3t pro bar tape for 8 quid. Rewrapped it same day with some perforated leather, thats how dissapointed I got :)
About the gaps, this was my first and second attempt at bar wrapping. I think I might be drinking a bit much when im working on stuff at home.

I have a pair of 7800 hubs with a new 7850 freehub and can confirm that only 10 speed Shimano cassettes go on- 6pt used those wheels to do Roubaix last weekend with an Ultegra cassette on.

  • not finished yet my 6th low pro

  • new project:

  • imo an omnium frame needs omniums

    Yo dawg etc

  • it came with the Miche cranks, and will probably keep them until I can afford 75's or omniums. This is going to be a slow burner, I'll get it ridable soon with some cheap wheels etc, and save up for some nice tubs to ride on the track

Haha I know the feeling, everything I work on after just a pint goes a bit awry!

That rewrap looks really nice mate, big improv

  • ... your wife is right get that Turbomatic off there for Gods sake man what was you thinking???!

Just dug out some old saddles from the parts bin to see what works....
    Here's the offending article

I thought originally a flite would work - perhaps the one in my parts bin is too ratty but I'm not wild about the look.

So I tried a Rolls - Much better I think

  • ^oops - excuse the dodgy camera angle!
I also had a go with a wildcard - the San Marco/Pirelli Active Suspension.

Think I'll stick with the Rolls...

  • Rik, you need my Concor! Would look mint. Love that Shorter by the way.

  • I prefer the Turbomatic...

Rolls isn't the best for an aggressive riding postion.... (imo etc...)

Dandy, those carbon wheels no good?

  • ^^ Agree - an original concor would look ace - a bit too much shape though for my liking - love the concor light though, and my new favourite is the concor/strada titanio - I think I'll be keeping my eyes open for a strada or light in the longer term.

^ Turbomatic is an excellent saddle to ride - but I can see it's not particularly sympathetic on this frame - I'll roll with the rolls and see how I get on

re: agression - I do find that with the lo-pro I basically stay in much the same place and don't move around on the saddle much - don't do many big climbs/descents etc, so I don't really need a saddle I can shift comfortably around on.

Nah, have managed to track down px tubs fpr cheaper than those clinchers so it's a no brainer really, only thing I'm having trouble with is

    Do I
Get Dura ace for rring and training, then would need seperate wheels for tt
Or PX carbon 50mm tubs, good for tting, could work for roading too but would then need some cheap training wheels...

  • ^ I'd go for DA & separate TT wheels - I struggle to see the benefit of deep crabon for amateur road racing - some sod takes you down, and another's bound to ride over that new crabon rim! - 50mm is bordaline side-wind issues too. Call me conservative, but i'd go for a high end aluminium over "budget" carbon.

  • I had thought about the "crash" issues, also the rim depth. The only thing that puts me off is the propietary nonsense and the fact I can only use 10 speed, but -500 quid has to be a bargain eh ;)

  • I had to reign things in at 45 mph today as the sidewinds were threatening to steer me into the hedges, that was with 50mm of Chinese carbon.

Speaking of which, sounds like Chrabon might meet your needs?

Nah, mine's sporting a mix of silver classic(ish) parts - DA cranks, Nitto seatpost and polished Campy Vento front wheel, and black modern parts - Thomson stem, SLR Carbon, and a H&Son tb14 on goldtec rear wheel next weekend.

  • Rik - the Rolls gets my vote, looks very nice.

  • I'm in need of some wheel advice. Have a few options, one of them a set of Dura ace wh7801 clinchers, but not 100% on a few things (colour being one of them!)

This is the bike, the saddle has since been swapped for a dark grey slr..

I'm just not sure if silver would look odd with the stealthy look I have going on, and they are clinchers, would really prefer to race on tubs... Then there's the price, is 400 too much? With no tyres.

It's not really stealth. There are silver bits all over there. I think the DA would look good, 38-50mm carbon tubs with silver hubs and spikes would look best.

But don't people race on all sorts? I'm sure I read somewhere that you should only race what you can afford to replace. Wouldn't mavic aksium's be fine.

  • ^^Cheers - the turbomatic is now fitted to the bob jackson rat where it matches the insane mavic 646 pedals I've just fitted!!

Think I'm about to stump up for the Da's although I don't really like the idea of racing on clinchers...

  • Just race/train/ride/perform the odd commute/trip to the shops on 101/82 carbon tubs. It's what i do.

Fuck training wheels and fuck sidewinds.

  • Nice lugs
