That Aende is hot, deserves better photos!
So happy I joined the pink bike club...
So wish I had bought a frame that didn't such a nice paint job so I could go pink too, have wanted a lime green and pink monstrosity for ages!

ok please somebody say it.
I bet if I ring a bell you'll salivate too. ;)
Yeah, thought the seat could do with going back a bit, it's back as far as it will go right now. What kind of seatpost would allow me to sit back further? All the set back ones I've seen have an integrated seat clamp...
Cheers. :)

integrated seatclamp is not a problem, the seatclamp is seperate to the saddle rails... . I'd really try levelling your saddle and riding it for a couple of days to give it a chance. That kind of saddle angle is reserved for BMXers and dirt jumpers for a reason... They don't really sit down.
I'm not sure if you're understanding though, the shorter your stem, the less the reach, the more upright you'll be and the more weight should be on your saddle and less on your wrists? That saddle angle though, I'm surprised you manage to ride without falling off the back, your hands are probably taking the extra strain of keeping you on board...

Yeah, it's not ideal by any means. Have tried it level and I just slip forward and all my energy goes into keeping myself back.
The saddle is deffo too far forward, even at its furthest point back, as now that I think about it I struggle to keep my toes on the pedals. If I was to use a layback BMX seatpost would I have a problem with seat angle?
I think maybe I'll change seatpost first and see how that leaves me with the bars.
Cheers.

And, yes, I am confusing short stem with 'low' stem. I know the difference but my brain cannot compute long or short along the horizontal rather than vertical.
-
• #61257
So if you're sliding off the front, do you not want to move you saddle forwards, closer to the bars, rather than backwards, away from the bars? If you're struggling to keep your toes on the pedals as well, could you try lowering your saddle? I'm a bit baffled to be honest... Think we need a photo of you riding the bike (or for someone to give you advice after seeing you ride in the real world...)

Built this on Sunday, mega rat, Frankenstein, functional trade bike......frame is a 1939 CWS trade bike. Built from parts left over from over projects. Almost finished, maybe a smaller 50t chainwheel......also going to build a wooden box for front.

Keeping toes on pedals versus mid sole on pedal, rather than not being able to reach. The saddle could go another inch or so higher and still be comfortable leg-length wise. Really feels like my weight is too far forward, exacerbated by the low handlebars.
I'll maybe get myself along to Manchester polo for some advice in person there.

the racks are really strange at first, doesn't do what you expect it to. i also have a 40's Pashley post bike, they are amazing for lugging crap around London. transported a whole bike (broken down) on it.......thinking i may have to let it go. do i need two cargo bikes......
and this arrived in the post this morning........

Overall, I still think that if ALL of crankgirl moved back on the bike she would be more comfortable. She just needs to move further back in the handlebar department than the saddle. Crankgirl, there's something called a seat sandwich that allows a double-railed saddle to be used with any modern post.

It looks as if you need the saddle level and at the right height. Then raise the bars a bit if you can do so safely. Would try 1" first and then another before deciding which you prefer. You have to make sure that there is enough of the stem in the fork column - easy if it is marked). If this doen't work conside saddle moved but make sure new seat post fits rails.

Now that sounds like a very good idea! Least then peeps can show you and see for themselves in person, giving both them and you a clearer idea, rather than the seemingly conflicting and confuzzled advice going round! ;)
Also, this-

I thought it wasn't a bob but only restored by them?
could well be gas-pipe!from the ebay listing...
- it is a bob jackson. it looks like other bob jacksons, but more importantly, hilary stone says it's a bob jackson and i bought it from him. i tend to trust hilary's judgement because he's the bona fide marque enthusiast for most british framebuilders, has a long history in the industry, and i've been round his house.

If the seat post is 27.2 it will be Reynolds 531DB tubing, whatever that proves.

Brakeset fitted to the Caygill. Just gonna have a few rides to figure out lever positioning on the 'tash bars, then wrap 'em up (thinking it deserves leather) Excuse the phone pic...
A Brooks Swallow Ti and new Headset down the line to finish up.
