My GT build has stalled momentarily. I'm keeping an eye out for some 10 speed triple STIs and found reference to Shimano R703s. My understanding is that they're Ultegra 6600 level, is that correct? As I was looking out for 105 5603s, I'm thinking these would be a good alternative, as they're heavily reduced at an online store (£128).
I guess I'm looking for some reassurance that these would be worth it?

guys,
if you wanted to run one of these nice modern compact road bars with shallow drop and a "classic" drop curve (not ergo) on a quill-stem setup, what would you do and what bar would you choose? i mean, still with quill stem?
thanks -

The Bontrager ones Spotter and Superjoe have look good, think the are ssr something?

I concur. I have some on my Mottram with a quill. Although, I just received some Deda Elementi 215 shallow drops from Crispndry which look pretty good, with the advantage of cable grooves front and back. These will be on my GT build with a quill, and STIs.

I ought to start a thread with a listing of 26.0 clamp compact bars, the question keeps coming up.
The main options are (in ascending price order):
Bontrager SSR VR-C (black only, no cable grooves)
Soma Hwy One (black or silver, front cable grooves)
Deda Elementi 215 (black only, cable grooves front and back - although the curve is round, a bit more like a shallow drop TDF than a modern compact)
Nitto M106 NAS (black or silver, front cable grooves)

Widest I've seen is 44cm. There are some Nittos that go that wide (e.g. the Randonneur and the Noodle) but not in a compact shape with short reach, etc.
I loved my 44cm Noodles (which also come in 46cm) but they extended too far forward for my T-rex arms.
Edit: Am assuming you mean 46cm centre-to-centre of the bar ends, which is how the Nitto and Soma bars are measured. The Deda bars listed above seem to be made in 46cm but that's quoted as outside-to-outside.
Edit 2: Soma have said they are starting to make a 46cm version (currently 3rd comment from bottom) so I guess if you ask SJS nicely they can let you know when they're available.

I used the bontrager one and its good. it has two side mounts and an extra set of bolts down the middle so you can attach a pump or like my just one central bottle cage as I did not need two.

^^ those two Deda bars look more like an ergo bend than a shallow compact curve, but the others are a good shout - not sure if the ITMs are still made though.

thanksThe Botranger ones are really good, like people have said, but I use a pair on Nitto B115AA bars, which are really nice, heres what they look like on me bike, but I don't know if this is what you are looking for.

Thinking about it, you need a shim for a road stem 26mm, and there are no cable grooves, they are in fact quite inferior if what you are after is mentioned above, but just incase its not...

Also ITM Super Italia pro 260 may be worth a look.
My ruler says drop 16cm, reach 11.5cm, roughly.

thanksNot modern, but fits the bill. Reissue GdI: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cinelli-giro-ditalia-64-alloy-handlebar/
Expensive though.
Any opinions on the Soma Rush frame?
