  • [QUOTE=Malaysian;2818829]is it 9 speed triple?

I've a pair of these somewhere, which could be the solution?

Im running 8 speed. But yeah combo shifters COULD be the solution. But from experimenting with fitting the ones I have. I get the feeling that with even combo shifters, the gear levers would interfere with the bar.

I also own about 4 sets of good quality 8 and 9 speed shifters. (Deore, Deore LX, STX RC) so am keen to use them before buying even more stuff!

  • what about running the levers inboard?

*Don't know if this could help, just throwing it out there

  • If you mean on the "hand" side of the brake lever, I tried this but it puts the brake levers in a totally unusable angle. even with the shifters in this wacky setup, It will surely still be faster to shift than the 8 speed DT friction shifters I have on my road bike. And I prefer using those friction DT shifters to the perfectly setup Sora STI's that came on the kona.

  • Thumb shifters above the bar seems to be the preferred set up on Promenades

  • are you mr brewer?

    Nope, just want it.

  • Thank you :)

Do you know where I can see some pictures?

    Thanks.

  • internetz.

  • i can't believe i made the effort to google that for you and copy and paste them into here. it's definitely bed time.

  • I'd be tempted just to buy bar-end shifters. They are brilliant IMO. Then if you dont like the set-up, simply buy some Paul thumbies to attach them to.

I have a pair of 9 speed DA bar-end shifters that I'm not using.

  • yeah that one^

  • 27C Challenge Paris-Roubaix on Mavic TN719- opinions on running these tubeless with Stans sealant in order to avoid pinch flats on the Paris-Roubaix in June?

    Bar end shifter.

You can easily fetch a 8-9 speeds one for as little as £15 in a jumble.

Hillbilly was showing me that tyres last night, look great.

The TN719 is reasonably wide (24mm), I don't think it's completely necessary to run them tubeless.

  • May not be necessary, however would running them tubeless reduce the chance of pinch-flatting, without introducing any disadvantages that outweight that one advantage?

  • I highly doubt it as the bend in the bar doesn't allowed enough room to push the lever further forward in order to get enough flat to put your hand on.

  • May not be necessary, however would running them tubeless reduce the chance of pinch-flatting, without introducing any disadvantages that outweight that one advantage?

the reason why I said the wider rims because it reduced pinch puncture (like on 23c with a 23mm width rims).

"may" not be necessary because I don't know whether the 24mm width of your rims is enough to reduced the risk of pinch puncture, I know it does on my 25c tyres with 25mm rims.

surely at 100+ psi the sealant just sprays out when you get a puncture? thought that was why nobody really used road tubeless..

  • I wasn't going to run them at anywhere near that pressure- they are at 60 psi right now. They are quite large tyres in terms of width and volume

  • fair enough, i thought they were standard 25mm tyres.

  • Marked up as 27's but look much wider than that- I'll measure them later for the benefit of tyre nerds.

  • no thread for this, so here will have to do, cycling 1000km soon, not huge but longest I've done for a while and I'm dong it fixed so was wondering what was the best ratio to use, any one have any experience, I'm sure you do, cheers

  • Some long distance fixed chat here
