  • Gaston, 16-spoke rear Shamals from the 1990s are still being raced every week - they are plenty strong.

are we talking of fixed gear for hurban streets ? or a race ? track ? pimp bike ?

  • Racing, not walking down Old St.

  • ok Racing breakless fun ; )

30 spokes for my home made Shamal
Je ne comprends pas croque monsieur , c'est ça !

  • You're quite the comprehensive expert Gaston! It's really just for rushing around town, a few log rides, so I think I'll go for the TB14's cheers guys, got to lace them to a hub now, oh decisions decisions.

  • Anyone have experiance with Maxxis Hookworms. I want some fat slicks for a longbike. To give a little comfort (+ I'm into fat tyres. Its a fetish). Schwalbe big apple look the best bet 26 x 2.35, and 300g lighter. But I love the look and fatness of Hookworms. Reckon my chainline would clear some Surly Black floyds (3.7"). But I cant justify the expence, and the the two over options have better protection.

    Is the extra weight noticable?

  • weight schmeight.... just think of it as extra leg training! (:

The bike is able to carry something like 200kg. With my wheel spec a fair bit less (36 spoke instead of 48). So 300g is no big deal. But no point in adding weight if there is no extra protection, or comfort.

  • TB14 look much more suitable on skinny steel, IMHO etc. etc.

Ed is right if you ask me.

Heavy as a mother, but damn grippy, they're proper downhill tyres.

Compared to the Big Apple, it's a featherweight, to be honest the Big Apple are damn good tyres (have those and the Fat Frank in the past), I can't see any advantage to going for the Hookworms, even on longbike.

Can weight the Hookworm at work for you if you like.

  • Finished. I want to give it reeen's theft prevention treatment.

saw you coming down high street ken. yesterday doing a little skid coming up to the lights. nice bike

    Ordered the Hookworms.

    They look cool.

  • Fixed Wheel Dolan coming together, just gotta put the crank together and covered up all the 'Dolan' name with black sticker (and a couple that said "variable gears are for those over 45"), I'm not a moving advertisement.

  • OK They will fit my 47mm rims nicely, add volume for passenger comfort, and have a bombproof side wall.

have you looked into kenda kiniption? http://www.pinkbike.com/product/kenda/Kiniption/

they have a nice rounded balloon profile and roll really well

  • I would like to see somebody use them on a muddy DH run.

  • ever since I saw this in pignonfixe's porn thread, I stopped taking them seriously

Cos the porn thread here is blue chip...

  • ...for a longbike...

    Wait, what's this?

  • just gotta cover up all the 'Dolan' name with black sticker... I'm not a moving advertisement.

Do you cover up stickers on your other bikes? What is wrong with Dolan?

  • Nothing, apart from Terry himself being a cunt (he's very good at starting fights), I just don't like the idea of riding around advertising for a certain brand.

My Genesis is also covered up, blue tape actually match the frame.

  • I've managed to get my Dolan covered in greasy finger prints that won't come off.

    On what grounds?

  • [**Maxxis Hookworms **are]...heavy as a mother, but damn grippy, they're proper downhill tyres...

now that you've ordered them, it doesn't matter too much, but i'll share my 2p anyway.
they are very heavy. the difference is very noticeable (of course depending on what you're comparing them to). but as far as i can remember from my (sort of) street riding days, they should be run at high psi, making them a real-deal slick (i dont know how else to put it), as opposed to Big Apples, for instance, for which the whole idea is to run them at low psi. So i am not sure this is what you were looking for

  • Wait, what's this?

Have a couple skinny bikes, building a fatbike, and all my bikes are short So I figured I needed a long one.

For load carrying, child transportation, and DH racing.
