I think i've just about got the Rustbucket the way i want it.... the recent shit weather was really starting to take it's toll on the bare frame, so i've lacquered it now, but i think i've still managed to keep the ratbike look. i'm still playing between various wheels i've got, but i think i like this set-up the most.

To this.....
......my (twice rebuilt, just finished once more) Pashley 3-speed ex-Royal Mail bike. Now tucked away until the summer!

that is sweet is a carrot (or a banana?) and looks like a lot of fun. some bikes just ask to be ridden and that is surely the best compliment you can pay a bicycle. well done indeed.

Cheers!
It was Royal Mail red to start with, many years and deliveries ago.....then it was rebuilt in British Racing Green.....shortly thereafter hit by a Smart and wrecked.
Now it's English Mustard (I colour matched it with a pot of Colmans!)

amoeba nucleus stem stripped
Just a quick question on the stripping process, did you use standard method of oven cleaner (or some such prodcut) with high Sodium Hydroxide content? Reason I ask is that the stem doesn't look like aluminium. I have some cruddy stuff which could do with destickering and buffing that's all...

sweens308 Very nice bike. It would look good with the original rack on the front. Have you got it?
Yeah, I have the rack, it was powder coated in BRG when it was first rebuilt (with a wicker basket to go with it too!)
It all looked pretty monstrrous though when fitted and just didn't suit the simple lines of the bike (ditto the mudguards that weren't fitted either).

Many thanks to Daveray for this one, summer bike. I'm well chuffed with it... the Colnago's been retired.
Went with a 650 front in the end, chunky. The rear wheel needs deflating to remove (0.5mm of clearance on the bridge), it rides beautifully.
I expect it'll get more DA upgrades as and when I find bargains.Rear DA Track hub/Open Pro
Front Low DA hub to XM317 (MTB rim)
DA Cranks
Campy HS/BB
Cinelli/MKS/Nitto/Strong-V bits

I agree, the BB looks insanely high!

• #5848
It's designed for a 24" front fork, also has large wheels (and chunky tyres), no vertigo as yet...
-
• #5849
Hell Jono, I think it looks sweet! And the 650 has got to make it less twitchy. Good goin', I hope she treats you well!
Ps. surely a bit of extra BB clearance is a blessing? -

i use caustic soda and hot water, in a glass salad bowl. anodising will come off in about 1 min.
speak to veLLo as he can point you in the right direction. ie: getting them for approx 50.00 which is a approx 120.00 less than what they should cost including the 'see-through' bottom bracket and fitting
