Fair enough, I thought about buying that frame and then suggested you might respray it...but it actually looks pretty good built up.

^ didnt you just buy 3 frames !?
-
• #57679
Klein played around with 1 1/16" steerer tubes for a bit. I can't imagine it'll be easy to find a suitable sized stem so you'll need to shim it.
-
• #57680
I think you mean 1¼", so it would need an inverse shim to fit most stems. 1.25" stems might be making a comeback.

I think he means what he says.
And seeing as its bigger than a 1" and smaller than a 1 1/8" so 1 1/16" would make sense.
Cheers bmxed. -

They're just for a bit of fun, don't think I'm going to keep any of them. Plus the thoughts on the Giant were way back when peter v was selling it

Good lord, you're right. There really is no end to the stupidity of bike manufacturers.

It's quite annoying.
Oh well. Shim/ asking adroit for parts time. -
• #57686
Sounds like a plan. Will be a slower build than originally anticipated!

that diaporama was a pleasure!
Thanks very much. And that's a fantastic word!

some more advice needed-cant seem to find much on the internet, so here is my query;
i have a frame and forks but no threaded headset-looking online i dont know what headset to buy so that they will fit
the fork is an inch i know that but what stack height do i need and how do i measure? -
• #57689
still not shure about the wheels
-
• #57690
That looks very interesting. Do know anything about Rickert?
In what way are you unsure about the wheels?
[edit]
This is from Velospace...
Hugo Rickert from Dortmund is one of the better german framebuilders.

Why?

Measure head tube length. Measure steerer length. Subtract. There's your stack height.

Looks proper porny, not sure about the Brooks though.

...But can't work out the steerer diameter.

i think we had a historical moment here yesterday, hadnt' we??..

this is rickert and his wife. they did all the work. he made the frames mostly from 531 tubings. she painted them. rickerts use to have a double pinstripe on the seatstays (the doris doppelstrich) rickert died last year. till then he had buildt around 30.000 frames from 1952 on.
so rickerts are quite rare. especially track frames. many pros had one. the frames are pretty solid but the paint is often far from perfect. you can see if doris rickert was in a good or bad mood. rickerts are no top models but really pretty and nice to ride......
im not sure about the wheels because its lf on the back and hf on the front. both 28h. 28h are pretty rare so i doubt that i can find matching wheels for an acceptable price.
but since ive got phil laced to omega v's for road use ....whatever.

This is my latest build and I am very happy with it. It's a bit heavy but rides well.

Yeah, the other one's scoot,if I had known I would have chosen a different user name. Actually I might see if I can get it changed.
Flipped a coin.
Used a spare front- is perfectly sized. But can't work out the steerer diameter.
