  • I would normally say black saddle/post, but this time I'm going to say white bar tape and a silver headset spacer. Looks good.

  • Yeah, black with the deep black rims, black bar tape and especially for highlighting the black bands around the Serotta decals on the frame. All day long.

  • Geared, a Specialized and an MTB, sorry.

    Lovely, really nice.

I like my Schwalbe Marathon Racers, 700x35 folding version.

+1, and Grand Bois tyres, although tan wall & at the risk of sounding like Scoble, roll like you're going downhill. They have no puncture protection, and are lighter for it.

I'm grinning from ear to ear.

    Also lovely.

  • I say this with a black stem all day (incl black tape). Do what you like best, if you listen to everybody you'll always be changing it.
What are the wheels by the way? love shallower rims as apposed to seeing 808's on everything.

  • Jambon took the words right out of my mouth, black Thomson stem would look good.

    Great build either way.

  • A couple of quick phone pics. After much chopping and changing i've sort of finished the Burls.
Just need to take it for a spin and see how the set up feels.

Fucking hell JD, this is awesome!

  • Paselas are awesome

    Yes.

^^Couldn't disagree more. Poor puncture protection and terrible road-noise. Any number of better options about.

    No.

    Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Ultimately I'll do what I like best, but it's nice to see the opinion of others. It does look way better in the "flesh" and the silver Thomson do compliment the chainset well, but the black kit does highlight the bands on the frame nicely. I won't be riding it much until the weather's a bit warmer and the roads are clean, so I've got time to think about it. It's one of the nicer decisions I've had to make in life 8-)

The wheels are Reynolds MV32 clinchers. I bought them second hand but they were pretty fooked so I had the hubs completely serviced and rebuilt with silver CX-Rays. I think shallow rims look good too and prefer these to the Assaults I had before.

  • And below in it's new clothes.

    This definitely gets my vote.
Silver stem and post match the chainset nicely and never a fan of brooks on a modern bike.

  • Serottas look so damn sexy, nice changes!

  • any suggestions for a decent brake for this sort of drop?
    preferably used/cheap/kicking around at home

I disagree to your disagree, i have done a few 1000 miles on my last road bike, not 1 puncture and still plenty of life left in the tyres, never lost grip in the wet or even wet mud, unlike other tyres i have used

  • Hey just got this for pittance off ebay

any suggestions for what to do with it? ...

find a seat post, then turn it into a beater

This is the brake you want:http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=72658

Not cheap, and there probably aren't a great many kicking around. Weinmann 730 might fit, and there should be plenty kicking around, but they are shit.

    thanks

I've been using this as an alternative:

although not confident the gf will be so keen. Might try the 730 first and see how we get on

  • Fuck yeah, can't think of a better way to spend a sunny Sunday. Now off on its first ride to get some cloth tape, decals will go on tonight and it'll be ready for action.

    Feels good man.

  • Wow that was fast!

    Looks sweeet
(Yes, even with risers :p )

P.s. I would've definitely bought that wheelset for £150 had you not beat me to it!

  • ^^ lovely weather you lot have at the mo! we're all like snow and stuff! (((

  • Pron >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • scorch it's mental, we don't normally have weather this good in the height of summer!

Jordan, thanks! I'll be swapping between drops and risers depending on my mood. Once both are wrapped I'll take some pics of the different set-ups. The wheels are lovely and Dammit's a top bloke for letting them go for that.

  • thanks

    Dia-Compe have a few more alternatives available individually;

The 750 centre pull is ok, but you need cable hanger stuff.

  • Switched the saddle and post from my road bike, now looking for a second SLR...

  • i think wheelset and cranks deserve better everything else tbh...

  • Oh, those poor puppies

  • wtf oz., bike is fine
