  • Ok. The token cogs are available in sizes above 16t for £16 delivered.

It seems to suite my regime. DA are great too.

  • You don't argue with the Mac Tester ^^

  • Fuck off Carroll.

  • I suppose i could get the Andel cog instead, but to be honest. they don't look much different to me.

mdcc_tester- don't mean to sound rude here, but have you actually tried both to compare them or are you just guessing from the pictures?

  • Sumo, it's nice to see the kondor getting ready for a flight.
i don't know much about BB standards but what i can tell you is that originally the bike was with old sugino maxy crankset with 3-bolt chainrings.
good luck, man. looking forward to seeing it finished.

I think I've worked out that it's ISO taper. Haven't found cranks for it yet, haven't really looked. Got a nice 80's campag front brake for it now, so just need a brake lever, stem and cranks.

  • Fuck off Carroll.

    Calm down ;)

I'm not guessing, I'm telling you that the picture quite clearly shows that Token has subcontracted their sprocket manufacture to the lowest bidder, using the cheapest manufacturing process. This results in poor quality product. Now, unless they have completely fucked up, the sprocket will do its job, and probably for longer than it takes most people to get bored with riding fixed and move on to the next fashion. They do at least seem to have forged the blanks, so the thread bosses aren't quite as rank as some of the really nasty sprockets out there, but stamping the teeth (badly) results in a roller pitch circle which is barely circular, and only fortuitously concentric with the threads if you happen to get a good one. I haven't actually tried a Token sprocket, but I've had most of the others in 10 years of racing on fixed (DuraAce, Miche, Suntour, Campag, EAI, Phil, Planet-X, Renthal, Trialtech).

For the reasons given above, your sprocket is not a place to pinch pennies, and it's only a few quid more to get a EAI from HubJub

  • Okay I get what your saying, but it is extra hassle ordering from another site though, I don't like extra hassle

Surly this will do fine... http://velosolo.com/andelcog.html

  • Surly this will do fine...

I see what you did there.
Yes, the Surly/Andel ones are better than the Token ones. If It was my money, I'd suck up the hassle (really? 5 minutes to do an online purchase is suddenly hassle?) and extra few quid to get EAI.

  • I'm sure the Andel cog will do fine, I doubt I would even notice the difference anyway

    Thanks for the advice.

While I'm here, the only thing left to decide on is the chain, I was going to go for the KMC Z1X INOX but I'm just curious if any one has any better chains in mind?

  • basic Wippermann Connex its excellent for the money

  • I'm after a track chain, but that's a 8,9,10 speed chain?

Wippermann 1Z1 if you're looking for a corrosion resistant chain for a daily driver

Tester is right on this one.

EAI have the best finishing IMO. But Condor and Halo do cheapish steel ones that have served me well both on the track and road.

  • If you think Miche and DuraAce are on a par with one another, you have much to learn about track sprockets.

I've raced and commuted on both Dura Ace and Miche and have no complaints with either. I even quite like the Miche sprocket carrier system...

  • A couple of quick phone pics. After much chopping and changing i've sort of finished the Burls.
Just need to take it for a spin and see how the set up feels.

Yes, we all know Miche sprockets will do the job, but...

  • i don't get it.

  • Those Wipperman chains look pretty good.

What about the DID or Miche chains on... Velosolo?

Edit again; Also read good things about Izumi and while Googling madly i realized i can get them from my lbs, which is even less hassle!

now i need to go for a ride before i catch laptop fever...

  • If you're determined to do a one stop shop, get a KMC from velosolo. If you want to save some money, using some of the spare time you clearly have given the number of questions you are asking about something which has been answered hundreds of times on this forum, and to which almost any answer will actually be close enough to right to make no material difference to your life, shop around for KMC or Wippermann.

    Ha!

  • Play _tester's link, substitute Starbucks 'Coffee' for Miche 'Components' and you should be sorted 'pains.

  • From the advice yesterday on getting a well made rear cogs, got a EAI and regina chain from BLB today.
The lady working there explained that rear cogs polished between the teeth provide a smoother drivetrain, although this isn't important for the front chainring, which the main issue is to do with how circular the ring is?

    some rear cog porn

  • Work in progress. Is it a decal on the fork? And can I remove this to get bare carbon?
