  • Finished now. Just took it out for half an hour, going out again in a bit. Love it so far. Like the SPD SL's too, almost too secure, nearly fell off at the lights a couple of times!

its really stiff and light, feels much quicker than my old benotto

  • Is everyone on this Forum 6' 6" tall?

It's only a 59ctc frame, actually slightly too small for me (you can tell by the seat post), ideally I need a 60.5 / 61, however the bike feels very comfortable.

    More photos?

  • Yep. Tried wrench, vise and that Sheldon bolt & nut way. None worked. British bb so should unscrew clockwise.
Will give it one more shot then i'll take it to a welder to have a bar or something welded on.
    Mighty annoying.

I once cut a BB cup out with a dremel. When trying to unscrew the cup, it broke, leaving only the threaded bit inside, and nothing sticking out anymore! So I had to cut a slot in the remains of the cut, bent it with a flat screw driver, and managed to break it. A bit dangerous as you can damage the shell's thread. But I miraculousely managed to take it out with no damage... You could try that if you want to save money at the welders...

Good luck anyhow, I can feel how frustrating this must be!

  • More photos?

lever/bar set up looks a bit odd in photos but looks fine in real life

  • Loving the monochrome look!

  • niceeee

  • heh, thanks guys, was gonna powdercoat it black but now all the bits are on I don't think I'll bother

  • I reckon a Deda Zero would cap off the B&W look ;)

    Great fork, great build

  • finally...

now all i need is some sunshine and no shit on the roads.

Super Record 11 gearing, rest is Record 11/Record

  • psee, have you soaked the whole BB in a proper penetrating oil?

You could build a reservoir around the BB with an old milk bottle and maybe some plasticine then use a can of penetrating oil (you can buy it in litre plus cans from auto spares places) leave it soaking for fucking ages - really days and days- and then use the Sheldon bolt trick.

Nice frame. I really like the seat stay to binder transition.

  • Also are you 100% sure its not French? A. Michel -sounds pretty bloody foreign!

Fucking hell that is a delicious bike, would be even sexier if the front drop-outs were red too!

  • cheers :)

I did think that, but we couldn't work out a good way to get the front drop-outs in red without it looking weird. Reckon a few hours were spent deliberating, alas...

  • hey, fancy trading stems dsan?

  • Hah, good trade!

  • ^^ perfect trade, surely!

  • if it's a 110, then i do reckon it is indeed a perfect swap!

Will do. Haven't tried that yet.

And yes, it's French. This one has British threads though.

  • Balls. Think mine is 100mm and needs to be, definitely dont want longer :(

    You sure yours is 110?

  • Quite cheap at Ribble if you decide to go down that route.

  • Thought I'd add some colour to my life. Commuter went from this dark but extremely light and fast Principia to this bright and better fitting yet rather heavy Nigel Dean:

    Principia

    Nigel Dean (original spec)

And an amalgamation of the two:

I ride quite a bit of night so it's ideal really and despite the extra weight it is a lovely ride. Managed to save the flouro tape too which I was quite pleased about.

  • tel, want to sell me those bar end shifters off the dean?

  • Principia frames are lovely I think. That Dean is cool though, I had the same tape but in orange on an old emmelle tourer.
