I've just cut down a threaded 1" fork, and managed to miscalculate by about 2mm. Not owning a decent file, would it be easier to try and get hold of one and file it down, or just try and use a 5ml spacer or something (would need to source one)?
-
• #56828
A spacer will be fine, but try to get a 2-3mm one as the thread engagement of your lock nut will be marginal if you go the full 5mm.
-
• #56829
Ah right. I just assumed they'd be in 5mm increments for some reason. In hind sight, that was a silly assumption :)
-
• #56830
Finding them in sizes other than 5mm increments is hard, particularly in the more or less obsolete 1" size, but they exist.

SJS seem to have them in 2mm, and cheap until you factor in postage. Just hunting about now...

..
Pretty chuffed right now.neat, does it rattle? what light is that?
-
• #56833
nope, it doesn't rattle. It's a cat eye.
it's this one, except in white. Doesn;t seem to be for sale anymore, but I'm pretty sure you can get them from pretty much any bike shop.
They're pretty good, actually, suprisingly so. but then again I'm still using a stash I got at trade when I worked for cyclescurgery. Wouldnt spend £25 on one.

here's a little quick project I just did.
I saw reeen had used a bit of rubber + some zipties to mount his rear light under his saddle. I thought it looked neat as fuck, so I totally copied the idea. Found a bit of natty plastic tubing lying around, used a breadknife to cut a chunk off, found a couple of zipties and 20 minutes later, voila:
Pretty chuffed right now.
The light on my TT bike (no light, no ride... nowhere to mount a light on aero tubing) is mounted in a similar way but not as neat. I think I'll copy this too.

OK, so I recently acquired this fairly horrific build...

upon riding it, I found that I really liked the frame and the way it rode, so decided to try and rescue it from the depths of anti...
This is where it's at currently, I like to think I've done alright...
I thought it would be interesting to see other examples of rescued rides, I'm sure we have a few between us!

Here's another current that springs to mind...
From this beauty courtesy of Tel...
To this from another forumite...
And courtesy of the great Scoble...
Which I understand is a work in progress... but definitely heading in the right direction.

It's not always convenient to blame others for these... (unless you count Fixed Gear Gallery)
It's with shame I present:
My first fixeh... Thankfully saw the error of my ways and brought it back to a slightly less rancid:

immense stack

• #56839
Absolutely mind boggling... Thing is, seller behaved like it was common practice, is this what goes on in the deep dark world of the track!?
-
• #56840
That stack is indeed crazy-looking! Did you test it out when it was built like that? If so how did it handle?
I like the rims on your rescued Fort, what are they?
-
• #56841
No I swapped the front end out for some other carbon forks and airwings before riding it, my guess is it would've ridden just like a bike with square geo and drops, couldn't bring myself to do it though.
Rims are open pro CDs.

Are you the new fucking Scoble? How many news threads do you need to post pics of your shit bikes in?
Sheesh.

Heh! I'm a fat bastard at 17.5stone and I run tyre pressure at 50psi!
(but then mine are 26"x1.5" and tubeless... :P )
-
• #56846
for that size tire, 50psi is about right

Basically I decided I am too lazy/irresponsible/stupid to take care of the bare metal, and that I had always wanted a pink bike anyway.
Best colour!! You know this is extremely close to the original Mercier pink colour? This is what I tried to achieve with Armortex too, and I had my bike just next to another Mercier with original paint work and it's almost spot-on!

Yeah, when I finally get round to buying a lighter wheelset, I might get some 1.25"(32mm), but finding a tyre that doesn't leak air like a very leaky thing would be good. The Marathon Racers I'm running atm need pumping every other day.
I wonder if you can just put the same air mass into your tyres regardless of section, 100psi in a 700x25c road race tyre should be about the same as 25psi in a 26x2" MTB tyre and 6psi in a Fatbike tyre
