  • Good plan. Thanks. That's exactly what I've done now.

Update: very fast response from Brooks. They said that leather is a natural material and therefore will be subject to non uniform wear but they agreed that the wear on my saddle was unusual and have offered to put a new leather upper on it. Exceptional customer service.

  • Just a thought, bit personal mind. What kind of chamois cream do you use? Is there any way that could lead to damaging the leather?

  • Had our factory in china throw me together a new beater for spring... Yes, I'm that tall.
Should arrive with painted samples of our new frames in a week or so!

  • Yo dawg, herd you like a head tube so we put a head tube on your head tube....

  • lolz^

  • Had our factory in china

    Who is our?

  • Tokyo Fixed Gear

  • Tokyo Fixed Gear

I visited that store for the first time yesterday, I felt really old and un-hip ):

Only use chamois cream on a 50+ mile tt or long days touring. Neither of which have I done on this saddle.

  • ^Sounds daft but I was thinking clothes.. Have you been wearing jeans with a tough seam or rivets etc? Something has roughed the surface up right from the word go by the looks of it.

  • That was going to be my original question, but being on a road bike I thought it was less likely to be jeans and maybe something else.... could be wrong though.

  • Ride with a wet arse?

seemed to make a lot of friction on my rolls when i was soaked

  • Don't ride your bike in the wet or you'll have to keep repacking the bearings.

I neglected mine and rode them for a year/5000 miles in all weather conditions. Utterly trashed the cones, but luckily the hubs are perfect.

Had some bother trying to source HB-7600 cones without paying for a full axle. Found loosescrews.com which sell the cones individually for $9. $7 shipping for a pair to the UK. *As opposed to a place in Germany asking for €35!

In my Googling for replacements I found others in my situation, so sticking this here in case of future searches.

  • You can buy seals for them though no?

  • I wish I had a factory in china to throw me together something :/

  • I got seals with the hubs originally, but they're not great. Seals also came included with the replacement cones.

  • The promised pics of changes to Les:

Basically I decided I am too lazy/irresponsible/stupid to take care of the bare metal, and that I had always wanted a pink bike anyway. I wasn't sure if I'd done the right thing as I rode away having left the frame at Armourtex but I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Still have the bullhorns so I can switch around depending how I feel, all I need now is new tape for those.

oh and a front spok and deeeep carbon rear

  • HHSB thread >>>>>>>>>>>

    (I rather like it...)

  • Booom!

  • Prefer the campag headset though.

  • 6pt seal of approval

  • Prefer the campag headset though.

I misplaced it while thinking about whether to get a different one which kind of decided that for more.

  • Have you found it? They're worth a few pennies....

  • Yeah it was in my laundry (???) this morning, I'm saving it for when I inevitably kill the headset on my other bike, I think other than the frame that's the only part I have yet to damage in some way.

Nope. Only ever ridden in proper cycling clothes (either specialized winter tights with padded shorts underneath or some Rapha 3/4 winter bibs). The bike has guards so saddle not getting splattered in road crud and I'm a leisure cyclist ie not a commuter so only go out if it's not raining. It's been bloody cold for a lot of the rides though. I'm sure there is friction at the points that are worn but my sit bones are way further back on the saddle than where the wear is so its a mystery.
