  • I really like that

  • You mistakenly conclude that a 5-speed cassette is impossible, when it is simply unlikely. It might really have a 5-speed Shimano Uniglide cassette, although it is much more likely that it has a 5-speed freewheel and the bike was sold by one of the 12 year olds who now run the world but don't know the difference.

Indeed. I've got one (uniglide) in my parts box (and a 6 speed one).

  • nutsjesmoar, i want your bike.

  • Nutsyesmoar, give your bike bullhorns.... You won't regret it....

  • they were designed to be use with bullhorns after all

  • Avaram for the love of Ernesto throw that stem and bar into a bin and get drops.
There are other issues but lets at least start there.

  • hi

got this bike in the garage and know nothing about it, would it be worth turning into a single speed/fixed? the only thing i can see is that it has horizontal drop outs which is a good point i think

    thanks

  • AVRAM. Get help.

  • Sell it to me so I can put gears on it.

    What a waste.

It's worth it if that's the bike you want... If you're asking if it's possible, then the answer is yes. The only problem you may run into is that peugeots sometimes have different sizes/threading from standard, so measure headset and bottom bracket careful if you're going to replace them.
But it doesn't look in too bad shape apart from a bit of rust on the chain, so i'd say give it a good clean, change the pedals and go ride it!

Yes. It's an ideal candidate. It has horizontal dropouts, it's free, the gear parts look old and are of low quality. With the mudgaurd holes it will be the perfect knockabout bike.

The only issue you might have is being french it might have some funny sizes. So don't bin anything! Especially headsets and bottom brackets. There is a pug thread knocking around in mechanics and fixing I think.

One other thing to note is that it is a fairly cheap and low end bike. Nothing inherently wrong with that, but bear it in mind when your fixing it up. Keep modifications and ugrades in proportion to that. There's no point in dropping £200 on a wheelset for it, when you could buy a better second hand bike for that price.

I'd start with single speed as it'll be cheaper and easier. Have a look here: http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/columns/bobgarage/indexb.htm and a read of sheldon brown where there are gaps in your knowlege.

Strip the bike and give it a good clean, oil / regrease, etc. The rear hub will probably be screw-on, so just wack a freewheel singlespeed on, get the chainline right and away you go. Then if you decide you like it and (more importantly it fits), switch those steel rimmed wheels and get some new cheap new wheels (rim: RIGIDA Grizzly / open sport, hubs: on-one, spokes: ACI) and some new tyres. Done.

  • lol
(at least he's got the rims to fit in with the above^ )

  • i have these parts. Idea was to make some classy tune with pmp hubs and crank, titanium seatpost and stem. maybe i was wrong ???

  • yes you were
how many of "these parts" do you actually "have"?

  • you were, so very wrong. put them back you'll be doing the world a favour.

brakes, crank, front rear del, hubs, shifters.

  • acquire full Groupset
    put on bike
    sell
    buy visp to ruin instead

  • Don't be silly - you can't ruin a visp

  • brakes, crank, front rear del, hubs, shifters.

you do know the diff between record, super record, nouvu record, corsa record, etc, right?.. the catalog shot was referign to 90ies (corsa) record

    tru dat
show us what you've got, and you just may rehabilitate yourself a bit (if you promise to put it back on the bike)
