  • Turned it with a plumbers wrench instead of the correct tool.

A plumbers wrench is the only bike tool you need.

  • hit it with a plumbers wrench.

  • Turned it with a plumbers wrench instead of the correct tool.

That's what I was thinking but I would like to think you would concede and visit an LBS before resorting to that!!

Especially when dealing with something that IMO is a lovely looking part.

well for crabon bikes at least

  • hit it with a carbon hammer?

  • makes it strong, truefax

  • @NurseHolliday
Is it possible to peek into the inside of of the headset? I did loosen it with bare hands, but no idea how the guy before me tightened it.

  • After the bits finally arrived, a day with Rohan was needed to get it all running 100%. 1987 frame with 2011 running gear. 7.8 kilograms and already helped me get an additional 4km/h average speed

    bliss...

  • awesome.

  • ^^^ I like this... my next bike will probably be modern components on a classic steel frame. A long way off at the moment though.

  • Woooah! Independent fabrication?? you got a custom build??

  • That IF looks tidy, the backdrop looks familiar too.

  • question is, track bike or tarck biek?

  • Wow. Just, wow.

  • looking good so far, james

  • Dsan, love it. Especially how you colour coordinated your drink to your cables

do they not take a proprietary tool?
    they do look pretty sick.

  • Awaiting wheel-build, brake levers, brake, among other things.

Oft. Cannot wait to see the complete build

  • I put a brake back on the other day as I'm fed up of getting pulled out on by cars and having to do funky manoeuvres, Dia Compe BRS 101 and a Condor Cross top lever. My new lens came today so I decided to try it out and get a decent photo of my bike now its nearing completion.

I'm well aware of the unmachined rim with brake fail, I'm poor at the moment and can't afford a new rim.

  • got the levers today courtesy of Aroogah and gave the headset a good clean and repack.

  • Hi there,
Just found your question. I was searching Jim Guard. He is/was my dad. I grew up in his bike shop. Can tell you all about him and your bike. Let me know if you are still wondering. it was 2009 when you asked but maybe you are still curious.

    Sue. nee Guard.

  • send the guy a PM, I am sure he will appreciate^

  • Tried to get my Giro D'Italia bars onto my ITM Eclipse stem last night.
I thought ITM's were 25.8/26.0, but there's no way I'm getting them on the (26.0) bars.

Any ideas if the ITM came in 25.4 or/and 25.8/26.0?

  • I'm pretty sure my ITM is 25.4
