I finished my DartmoorAdventureBike just before Christmas.
Sorry the photo bad, it's from a phone, in the rain and 40mph wind!
The idea was for a versatile bike for Devon lanes, bridal paths and moors, and something that'd be fun and safe to ride in the middle of winter.
Being a bike for occasional rather than constant use I didn't want to spend much on the build either.Diamondback frame, Exotic forks, FSA headset.
Deore M590 everything, including the hydraulic brakes with 160mm discs, all picked up cheaply from Merlin Cycles.
Chunky wheels (with pretty rubbish Quando hubs).
Deda stem and OnOne Fleegle Pro handlebars.Let me know if you'd like to do some 'Dartmoor Adventuring', I'm in Plym and I've just go my MTB back together so am keen to get muddy up on the Moor!

NOS Rotrax Vil de Huv
what the fuck should I do with it?!?!?!?!?!?!Give it to me to go with my dad's 1948 Rotrax. You don't deserve it if you can't spell Vel D'Hiv

shh I had forgotten the spelling and the effort of going into the garage was too great! I must say this is a beautiful 531 frame with not a single mark after! does your dad want to buy it?

I also was thinking of campagnolo for the drivetrain, what era?

No, if anything he needs to sell his. And his similar age Hobbs. And his fillet brazed 653 Mercian. There's going to be an epic shed clearance thread on here when he pops his clogs.

dibs, in case Royal Mail comes to senses with their "volumetric" way of charging things for shipping outside of EU

I didn't realise you were down there.
My parents now live 20miles or so NE of Dartmoor so I ride from out there usually. That said I really do want to explore it each time I visit from now on and venture further in your direction. I will give you a shout if I make plans.

what the fuck should I do with it?!?!?!?!?!?!oMG OmG. White Hed 3 front, pink aerospoke rear. Blue risers with white grips. Yellow seat. To prevent an overkill of colours go for black tyres.

Embedded photo didnt work :/
I'm still undecided about the wheels, I want to put a brake back on so my options are to buy a new machined rim for the front or a completely new wheel set which would mean waiting a while. I was thinking of having a go at building some wheels myself, I'm a complete novice but on the whole it doesn't look impossible and would mean I have built the bike entirely. I was thinking silver or black, whats other peoples verdict?
-
• #54767
silver would look great, thats a cool build. i'd definitely have a crack at wheelbuilding, lots of people on here have and there's tons of advice.
-
• #54768
Thanks, I've spent a bit more time and consideration with this one. I agree silver would look best, I search around for some wheel building threads. Don't suppose anyone knows of a small "Goldfinger" style crosstop lever that fits on 26mm bars? I wan't a brake but I want the lever to be as small as possible.

I'm fed up of having no clearance with mudguard with my 32c lightweight tyres, it's ridiculously comfortable and feel fast to ride on, but the lack of mudguard proven from yesterday rain was off putting.
Either go for a custom frame with clearance for 32c and mudguard, or put skinner tyres on wide rims for tubular feel and comfort of a bigger tyres.
26mm, a perfect size with just enough clearance for a decent steel mudguard;
providing a good U shape instead of the hourglass shape, it was surprisingly comfortable and does feel like a tub, even at 80psi.

You were on a one man campaign for 32c and now you are saying 26?
-
• #54771
I am still on a one-man campaign for 32c.
As long there's enough clearance of course.
speaking of which, is it entirely possible to clean a set of gumwall tyres? I still got lots of life in mine, and the sidewall are cacked with brake dust.

No he mean third dibs.

I was assuming you meant the Rotrax. Dibsing all three is just greedy.
Attach parts to it in order to make a working bicycle. Then ride it.
