The setup in the photo is right. Once the steerer is trimmed the Roberts will look perfect.
Riding around with spacers and a negative degree stem is just done if you secretly wish for:
a) more flexibility and associated slammed stem for pro credentials
b) a quill stem and associated retro manabouttown credentialsBoth are silly.

I think the Decathlon/Btwin ones are better, and also cheaper

Stems look better when inlineish with the TT.... which is generally the done thing with road bikes. trufax, just ask le googlé.
It also leaves you the option of flipping the stem for more comfort if you find the requirement on any epic trips...

Oh dear. I think Im building a monster. Rasta steel frame, Tiagra crankset, Surly cogs, Gold Rigida rim rear, silver mavic front, honey brooks saddly... This is... going to be a candidate for removal of eyeballs.
Zoooom.

Re: Roberts. I would experiment with the hood position. By raising them on the handlebar you'll reduce the reach and increase the height.

Just gave my Fuji a wash down and oil (as best I can in this new flat, out on the pavement) and the drivetrain has gone all quiet. Lovely. Lots of rust spots emerging on the frame, though. Was powdercoated about 4 years ago. Maybe once this winter's out of the way I'll get it re-done... Time to get rid of the green? Would have to change my avatar too...

The 'done thing' with road bikes is to put the bars where they need to be in the simplest, stiffest, lightest and most straightforward way possible and has nothing to do with angles of tubes.
What am I supposed to ask Google?

Careful what you learn from Google images. What you've got there are a lot of OTP road bikes. i.e. with some spacers and a 6° stem. That is all.

I finished my DartmoorAdventureBike just before Christmas.
Sorry the photo bad, it's from a phone, in the rain and 40mph wind!
The idea was for a versatile bike for Devon lanes, bridal paths and moors, and something that'd be fun and safe to ride in the middle of winter.
Being a bike for occasional rather than constant use I didn't want to spend much on the build either.Diamondback frame, Exotic forks, FSA headset.
Deore M590 everything, including the hydraulic brakes with 160mm discs, all picked up cheaply from Merlin Cycles.
Chunky wheels (with pretty rubbish Quando hubs).
Deda stem and OnOne Fleegle Pro handlebars. -

If I moved the hoods any higher they would be out of the alignment marks on the bars.

Do you need a special bike to ride up the church aisle?

The alignment marks are for the clamps, not the hoods.

Just wanted to post on the forum about something like this, this is great!

It's the latest niche.

Thats what I meant. The allen screws rest above the final marker.

Had most of the parts for this collecting over a while, going to try put most together tomorrow. Crabon frame, full mirage 9 speed group, sciroccos.... Bars & stem were just close to hand when unpacking the bits, will get more classic shaped bars and I'll be on the lookout for a suitable 100mmish stem.
Idea is a full campag crabon build for sub £500, barring any disasters should be possible.

shifting my bits onto new canyon frame: still need to lower saddle/stack to right height but wondering whether I should remove those rim stickers...
