Nice Noca, very nice!
Apolloxl, why didn't u put the sugino crank on that "cleaner bike"?

Tilover, is the lever braze-on or band-on? If latter you just need move it up a fraction to get adjustment on the thread at the rear. I guess you will have worked that out though. Another way is to use a half-link to put the wheel back a fraction and this will give you adjustment when you slacken off cable to compensate.

did you actually smooth them yourself?
-
• #54282
yeah! ;)
-
• #54283
spotter - will you be trying to make your leader welds smooth?
-
• #54284
its already got smooth welds actually, It was made before they started cheaping out. My new frame set is here so my old one is going to be up for sale soon as soon as I get my spokes for my new wheel. I hope i can get it finished in time for a xmas day ride
Noca did you just sand them down by hand?

first i used a electric sand machine but 80% was by hand.
but the smoothing was not only the "sand" part.i don't think it's safe to smooth a regular weld. I asked mine to be FAT weldings.
after sanding the weldings i applied a "betume" (sorry! don't know the english word for it) and than i sand it all again. Than i applied the "aparelho" (eh eh! Again english word...) and than sand it again. That way the welds became as smooth as baby skin :) -

betume
does that mean 'filler'?
-
• #54289
hummm! I think so ;)
-
• #54290
after sanding it the 99,9% of the filler desappear.
I only use it to fill the micro-NANO-irregularities (lol!) -------------> call me crazy :D -

Out of interest, how much less (%) was the frame to have made (if anything) with rough welds? -
• #54292
can you refrase the question?
-
• #54293
I think he's asking about cost.
How much cheaper was it to have the frame build without the welds being tidied? -
• #54294
i think he wants to know if it cost more to have 'big' welds on the frame?
-
• #54295
er.... i can't answer that.
I don't know it for sure but i think Valdemiro will ask for the same €€€ -
• #54296
Fair enough.
Was just wondering how cheap it would be for me to have someone weld a frame for me, if I was to do all the finishing work.
Anyone on these forums a frame builder?
-
• #54297
Rourkie is a reputed builder.
A lot depends on the material, type of joint method, extra bits - internal cable routing ect.
The polo guy's are getting steel frames for around £300-400. Ryan of Spring break is a frame builder, he owns/runs Oak cycles. There's Ted James. There's a lot around if you look. There's a site where they give you a list of prices for each part, you then add it up and that's your price.

nah it's braze on actually but it may not stretch that much - we shall see!

Thats awesome. Are they like disc wheels with clear sides?
Well there's two Specialized fitting centers not too far from me in kingston, so might check em out, but to be honest, was thinking of next bike as more of a budget item. Think I'll get away with a 56cm frame alright and it gives me a chance to get used to a road bike a bit and play around with different setups on it to see what I get on with, before saving up for a nice (and expensive) bike that I probably will get fitted for.
