  • Alternatively, if you're going for that style some old drop levers will look good - something like modolo ones that you'll hopefully be able to get in black.

You can get NOS modolo levers off the bay for about a tenner - there's a guy who seems to have stacks of them. I had a pair in white for a while, not super comfy but ok if you set them up properly.

  • ^what frame are those going on? Very nice.

    For a Dodici Gara :)

Modern Concor saddles don't look like the older models, or is it just me?... they look wrong.

I suppose that they will not be exactly equal...it doesnt matter, because is very confortable!

  • why not go for pursuit bars?

This is a really nice idea. Never had pursuits though so they're a bit of a unknown entity for me. Not seen many with brakes either...

  • NB: You'll need a shorter stem to use pursuit bars comfortably than if you were using drops esp for a comfy commute over about 5 miles.

  • You mean the frame, cranks, wheelset, were part of the sale?

Full bike, took off bontrager seatpost, cinelli cockpit, swapped for c-record seatpost and nitto cockpit for the pic..
    Anyway, I'm still dis-a-point.. :(

  • And is apparently now selling the wheels....how much was it up for? (if that's okay to ask?!)

  • ...I would've sold the wheels too..
It's not 100% him to blame, but the seller too.. Maybe the seller just wanted an easier/faster sale.. Maybe he overbid* me.. I don't know.. Seller's the real dickhead, I'll get over it..

*overbid as in, seller puts it up for a certain price, I agree to buy it at that price, seller reserves it for me (on the ad), so, dickhead move

  • Am going to be using this (Bates BAR) as a daily fixed throughout winter.
    After some advice on tyres.
It's built for 27" wheels (which I have but aren't suitable for daily use) so there's clearance for 35c on 700c rims.
I'll be using Mavic Open Pro rims. I know there's debate about how big a tyre they can take but am thinking of Vittoria Randonneur Hypers in 32c.
    Anyone else tried this?

  • Holy cow that cannondale on the last page is sweet. what year is that from?

  • nankatsu go for panaracer paselas. Way better than randos, especially good if you like tan sidewalls.

  • ^^Dunno, '90s, seeing the dropouts.. Fork is not original, paintjob neither, done by bikepaint.nl (see decal/logo on chainstay)..

    ?Where, please?

    • Conditie: Zo goed als nieuw

I wish we all spoke like that!

ahh, probably just 92ish then. i though the fork and paint might be original. some rare, slightly later model or something. absolutely lush either way to be honest!

thanks - they seem to have good reviews and are quite a bit cheaper too

  • DF3

didnt you own this a few years ago?

looks good! i take it business is booming at the moment?

  • Haven't decided yet. It's my everyday ride so should probably have a degree of comfort but it deserves track drops (and stem) really doesn't it?

If you're that bothered, you can have both, like the Cinelli Giro D'Italia, and even Cinelli Criterium:

    Ed is an experimentalist.
It's worth pointing out that fitting two pairs of bars to one bike is really rather dangerous.

damn - i was hoping you'd go for the hypers - I was looking at these but unsure to get them, I thought you might come out with a nice review

edit: if it's for city tyres I would go for a randonneur over the paselas?

I'd go for conti gator hardshells, they do a 32c, I've been using the 28c on my cx bike which I'm using for road rides and commuting at the moment, they're quite a comfortable ride and they rolls alot faster than randos and no p*****res so fa (done about 400 miles on them since fitted a few weeks ago.)

*setting out for big ride today, how many p****res will i get.....

Which Randos are you comparing the Gators with?
On paper at least, the standard Randos seem quite a bit different to the Rando Hypers.

    As was Sheldon.

  • oh dear god

  • Ed's fapping now.

  • Decided to put gears on the Gazelle.

Used my old road wheelset and a new crankset (with a bash and n-stop to prevent derailment) for a 1x7 setup. Also changed the bars as I'll be spending more time in the drops now that is where I shift from, so went for something a little shallower. Suntour bar end shifter didn't seem to index so well with the Shimano cassette, so friction shifting it is for now.
