The main thing I don't like about those stems is that they put the pinch bolt around the front. Ugly imo

What are the other things you don't like about them? In the attempt to put together a build that works for a lugged frame I would choose that over tigged stems.

Thanks for the nice comments - I like the bike a lot!
When I was discussing the refurb with Chas Roberts, we had a long discussion about a-head versus quill stem as I was having new forks made (I bought the frame with some carbon road forks with (ugh!) mudgard eyes). As I am very large build (ex prop forward) and very strong and want to target sprinting, his advice was for the a-head approach for maximum stiffness. The frame was originally made in 2000 apparently and he said either would be correct for the age of the frame as they were doing both at the time. In some respects, I wish I had gone down the quill route for the clean aesthetics (and I do also have a Dolan track bike I can have as stiff as I want!), but I understand it is too late to change now!
I am about to collect some custom made spacers that are highly polished with 1" internal diameter, but exactly match the size of the Token track stem fitted so it should look a little neater and more balanced. That said, that top/front end is specifically for use on the track. I went for the Token chromed bars as they are 44cm width (big shoulders!).
The head angle on the bike is such that despite having a Token track stem fitted in the downwards pointing orientation, it still looks a little uncool!
If I could find a more elegant 1" highly polished stem and 44cm bars to match I'd be much happier!
For use on the road (with a brake - I generate too much momentum to stop quicker than a supertanker without one), I have another 1" stem with classic 3ttt pista bars as per this picture...
If anyone can recommend where to find the ideal stem and bars, please help!

it's not too late to cut down your forks and thread them but at the end of the day it's not worth spending too much on aesthetics if it functions fine for you.

Very nice bike Mike. Stick with the a-head. I have a lovely quill on my bike, but things get a bit sloppy when I'm out of the saddle on the track.
I have a Nitto UI-5gx stem on my commuter. It is 1 1/8" but you can shim it to fit 1" I think it even comes with a shim if I remember correctly. 26mm clamp, although they also do an oversize version.
Ritchey do a very nice oversize silver stem. here
Are you sure you want to ride track bars on the road? Road bars with hoods make the bike more comfortable and functional.

Saw that Roberts when I popped by the track yesterday - colour is excellent in the flesh.

The current fashion is for narrow bars for sprinting - improved aerodynamics, no loss of power and you don't need the claimed breathing and comfort advantages which are the usual reasons given for putting wide shouldered people on wide bars. 3T Scatto, which is the sprinters' bar du jour, only comes in 35cm and 37cm. People who have switched say the steering feels funny for the first half an hour, and after that going back to road width bars feels like getting on a chopper.

Looks really good to me, tasteful and fairly well priced. Perhaps a little expensive -

record stem, know nothing about it but looks so good, properlly sculpted, like a renaissance painting of stems. nice head badge as well.
27 inch wheels, steel rims (rear hub has fixed/lockring thread on one side and gears on the other, which i thought was odd)
cottered cranks
lugged all round, and lined with paint.
chrome tops and bottoms of forks
nicely shapped bars
covered in dust and generally worn but though polised up would look pretty neat. -

Looks interesting, what are you trying to do? Is it just being polished up? Looks great already.

What he ^ said, and I guess you're after a traditional looking, new, lugged steal frame, that's 1" threaded?
If so, then imo £350 for the TFG S2 is a better deal.

Maybe, but in my head Columbus Thron > 4130 chromoly, so I'm not sure it's fair to say they're equivalent. (But then I haven't ridden either or seen the technical date).
I just know that around that price, I'd rather have the extra money for hubs, or cranks. Plus it can take larger tyres.
edit: what size are you? - there are a couple of nice classic frames on ebay at the mo.

Ive already got all the nices parts just no frame to put it on ha! 59cm+ and im wanting tight clearances and track ends

For what It's worth, the Tokyo fixed frames are very nice in the flesh, was really impressed with them.

Meh I'm gonna stick with my user frame instead, any solution for converting a cotterd bb shell to square taper?

Experimenting with the pantographing. Polished and panto'd just like Campag should be...

Most (non-Raleigh) BB shells housing cottered BBs are 1.370"x24tpi, 68mm wide and LH thread on the drive side. If that's the case, you can just drop any common square taper BB in there.
Or even a custom stem that'll make mdcc_tester winch with delight;
