  • There's like 3 or 4 Brooklyn that look identical to his mind, Kept seeing different blokes on it.

'is still a lovely build though.

they are all a bit samey yeah, you need to customise them to really make them unique...a rack maybe...

  • yeah, maybe get it some god-awful welding too and let it rush perhaps, turning it into a pointless Pompino would help too.

    Seriously though, look how fucked-up it look now (abet different rack), just for you jersey;

  • the red bull can ruins it

  • Couldn't find a bin, stick it in the rack.

  • Chris, one thing you need to worry about: does it fit you?

    If not, sell it.

    If it does, keep it.

Yeah It's the right size, well should be ...

if its not the size advertised I'm going to be pissed!

  • woop - she is complete

decided i need 172.5 or 175 cranks though - these feel odd, anyone got any campagnolos in their toolbox?

  • ^ Would this be for L'Eroica next year? :)

  • hell yeah! less than 3 months to go

  • what is the l'eroica?

    pardon my ignorance.

  • it's a vintage bike ride in tuscany every october... 210km on and off road up and down mountains,

about 3500 riders, 3400 of which are italian, all dressed up in vintage gear and on bikes pre 1986... a stop every 30km with free wine/meat/cheese and a great vintage bike market at the end

this will be my fourth time - total highlight of my year!

Chance of finding a 3-arm GS crankset in that condition and >170mm: negligible.
Chance that you'll notice the change: even less.

It feels odd because it's a different bike, and you've read the crank length on the back. If somebody switched the cranks on your regular bike for something 2.5mm longer or shorter without telling you, you wouldn't notice. In fact, you wouldn't even notice if they only did it to one crank.

  • how much does it cost?

is it a one day thing?

are you taking a week over the event?

    sounds amazing, I wanna play...

  • nah, i don't want a 3 arm, just a 5 arm super record is fine

i run 180's on my mountain bike and i have a 36" inside leg, much prefer a minimum of 175mm on all my bikes, it's may be in my head but it works for me

i notice the difference between a 58cm and 59cm frame, and a 100 and 110mm stem so why not 5mm on each crank 10mm in total?

  • sadly tom it sells out at the beginning of the year but you can register on the day for 100euros i think?

we have room in our hotel, we fly from thursday - tuesday

  • what dates? seriously.

  • first weekend in october... check out the pics from last year...

  • Every year L'Eroica sneaks up on me and every year I'm like "I no haz vintage bike, I no haz monies for vintage bike". Maybe next year.

Headset. I think mine's on the way out. I need something black and 1.1/8". I know nothing about headsets so is there anything else I need to look out for? The one on currently is a cheapo FSA. What's good for the money?

There's a good chance that replacing the bearings in your current one will rejuvenate it. If you haven't been jumping stairs, the cups are unlikely to be shagged.

  • Hope, made in the UK :)

  • Quick question, I've got a friend who wants to swap his drops for straight bars so I was wondering if these bmx levers would work ok with standard road calipers?

    thanks in advance

They would, but it has been my experience that it is much more pleasurable to use side pull caliper brakes with a four finger lever. You also need to be aware that they might not fit on whatever flat bars you are using.

BMX are 7/8" which is smaller than the usual 25.4 / 1"

  • Also true, but this has always been at the cost of reducing stiffness.

Of course, there has also always been an equal amount of BS about how much frame stiffness you actually need. Even in super thin walled 753, the old fashioned 1⅛" OD down tube & seat tube with a 1" top tube yielded a frame stiff enough to have satisfactory handling in a road race geometry, although even the heavier 531 could be a bit marginal with touring loads and the correspondingly longer tubes. The problem is easily solved by adding ⅛" to all the main tube ODs, with scarcely any increase in the total amount of metal employed.

I notice crank length plenty, road needs 170mm, mtb needs 175mm. Guess its exacerbated because I have proportionally short legs, so short cranks for spinny road work and long ones for bashing ny way up obscene gradients. I notice. My bro's hardtail is same size as mine yet do not like riding it because he has 170 cranks on it.

  • I though I noticed the 5mm difference, until I put the wrong crankarm on the bike and was convinced it's 170 (turn out to be 165).

    It's all in our mind.

  • it's all in *your *mind

    :)
