Different ring and cog is the easiest solution, especiallyif the crank itself fit fine, and it's only the chainring that's the problem.
-
• #47055
actually yes - it's hard for me to imagine that cranks fit, and chainring doesn't. in my experience it was always spider arm in the way
of course just get a smaller chainring and cog -

crapstix. nipped to my lbs at lunch to put the headset on and wind in the bb cups only to find the short chainstays on the MKM mean that my cranks don't fit with the big chunky ring... pooo - i hate when that happens
so now -
different cranks?
different ring?
spacers to fill out the chainline
something else? This is how frame builders do it.
A good whack with a hammer on the chainstay. a round piece of steel laying on the stay may be useful. And a frame alignment tool to check the frame afterwards, too.
Or deform it with a (hand) press if that's available.
You just need a steel frame, a good hammer and some guts, really. No 753 or similar tubing though. -

S'called crimping. A reconised framebuilding stage.

yup, i've hammered a few frame in the past to make it work but not this beauty - will find a way round it! bizarrely it might mean fitting road cranks if i can't find a ring that will fit
i like running 48t though, was actually planning on putting a 52t on but not anymore!
-
• #47060
I've seen people do it with a former and a quick-clamp. The former was just a round bar with the ends filed so they wouldn't dig into the tube when you press it.
Personally I'm not a fan of hammers around frame tubes.

I've probably missed a load of info here. But is there a reason you cant space the drivetrain out a little.
The cheapest way being to use longer chainring bolts with spacers (ugly though). The best being just to use a longer BB axle.

puts your chainline out though, unless you space out the cog at the back..

i have a flexible chainline at the back so no probs there but it's sram external BB system so very limited with movement, i think i can put 1 spacer in which i've done and it seems ok and i'll see what rings i have in my toolbox at home and hope they fit
and i can't use spacers as they are track cranks so spacers will just make the problem worse

Don't the BB cups come with spacers like Shimano ones? I know with Shimano ext BB cups they're designed to be 73mm wide but they come with spacers to fit 68mm shells - cost cutting.

-
• #47067
^why not? I've got a pair and I hugely prefer them to my old keos, but I don't use them anywhere near as frequently.

Harry hall track frame, bought of here and got some 531 Raleigh drilled for brake forks! Second hand double fixed track tubs wheels which need a truing! Hopefully the cranks will get replace this month with something better than a £30 espresso ones! -

Explain yourself, sir! Is it just because you're a povo, or do you have some practical objection?
-
• #47072

Ooh I was after the aero ones, but knew I'd scratch them to hell, and that this would pain me, so settled for standard :(
