What is this 'ART' of which you speak?
I know somewhere that has a few 25.4mm Grammo stems in 110+ I think.
They're bonkers. I figure one of the blues will match though...
I know where I can buy one but it's SO expensive new -

Sorry Aran. Believe me I can't wait either. Just waiting on a BB (and a few Ti bolts from Canada).
I hope you don't hate it when it's done!

i was thinking, i have a single 48t stronglight crankset on my road bike now, thought i might be able to fit a small chainring on it for those huge hills, like those small ones on touring bikes, so its like a 48t and 38t or something
would this be possible? if so where would i be able to get one?

What your talking about is a road double. They're often 53/39 or 50/34t. They are available in shops, and also on the internet through your computer screen with typing.

This week I will install Centaur bb, fit Sug 75's, chop risers and wrap in velox.

I have the plain ol' one, but it's at 120mm though.

Your wrapping your bars with Veloflex tyres? What am I missing here?

Superb grip, not very hard wearing. Or he meant Velox Tressorex.

Just to be clear. Do you want a smaller chainring? Or to add a second (smaller) chainring?
-
• #46718
To add a smaller chainring on the crankset i have already
-
• #46719
Wouldn't it be too close to the chainstay and the chainline be at least 3mm out?

£45 gets you a Sora 34/50 double with BB
http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/Chainsets-Road-Shimano-Sora-Double-3400-9-Chainset/SHIMCHAR490&
Otherwise you're looking at a new (longer) square taper BB, a chainring and bolts/spacers, even assuming you can find one with the right PCD, all of which will leave you just as poor but with a crap chainset bodge instead of a nice shiny new one.

Perfect.

...also dont forget that for every hill you ride up on a low ratio you have to spin down!
facepalm
I'm going to bed.
-
• #46723
nah, there's room in there for another chainring
already said I'm after the chainring, i already have a crankset... (to mdcc tester)
-
• #46724
don't think you can do this.
not unless it has a spider on the inside of the crank, i think (again).
also, the second chainring would likely rub on your seatstays and how would you get good chain tension if there was a significant difference in the sizes of the chainrings?also dont forget that for every hill you ride up on a low ratio you have to spin down!
no i would just change back up to the 48t and pedal with that?
found this pic while googling, this is the sort of thing i want to achieve...

Well, edscoble will be pleased, but seriously, you have the cheap and nasty Stronglight 55 don't you?
So you need to measure the PCD of the 5 holes, get a matching chainring, get bolts and spacers, probably change your BB because you've measured wrong and the new ring does actually rub on the chainstay, and even after you've done all that you still have a shit chainset. Just spring for the £45 Shimano, it's plug-and-play and a significant quality upgrade for the same money as your bodge is going to cost.
Spigot it is then ;)
Good point with the tolerance. I went for the interference fit so when it was tapped into place it held itself in the needed position.
@jammy - wow you just outranked me with that seatpost height. Nice bike for a man your size.
