  • Ed's bike may be functional but those bars ruin it.

  • I find the flat bar originally too far with the 100mm stem, so put the extreme sweep bar on it to compensate.

Not wishing to buy a new 70-80mm stem to compensate, I'll have that bar on for now.

  • In my defence I did put forward a less 'shopper-like' 8 Deg sweep bar.

Nice. Get some nice risers on there. Looks like you need quite a lot of rise too. Ragelys wiser bars are well priced, come in loads of degrees of rise, and have a nice amount of sweep for a riser (8Deg).

  • I hope the plastic pedals are temporary on the Kona?

  • Obivously, taking it out for a test ride.

    The Carnegie bar look pretty good, not as extreme as the one I have but still wrist friendly;

  • The Carnegie (also availible in alu) has a 25 degree sweep which is loads for a flat bar. The feegle bar, which is also a flat bar famed for its sweep has only 15 degrees. Bars are a personal chioce. But IMHO too much sweep sacrifices control for comfort.

The bar I mentioned was the 'wiser'. Not a special shape, just availible in loads of different rises.

  • Therein beg the question - is there's anything to defend?

    I'nm contradicting myself somewhat.

  • I use the Fleegle pro (with the ends cut off) on my fixie skidder. It's Ace and Rad and all things retro MTB.

These are a cheap alternative to the Ragley bars if your just poncing around the woods.

My rigid mtb has northroad bars these days. They're shit off-road, but if I've got to ride 40 miles to get to trails it's a decent compromise.

  • Actually it got a chainguard, well a plastic reflector to keep the chain from jumping, just didn't installed a p-clip on it yet.

This sounds good (if it works).

If it doesn't work these are £17 <--- actually cheap for a chain device, they usually cost a packet.

+1 to the small furry one here. I had Marys on my Swift initially. Really, really comfortable if you're just riding about but found a more 'traditional' bar much more useful actually off-road.

  • i love the Roberts up the page. love the colorscheme.

  • Been riding this for a couple of weeks but it deserves better pedals than crusty old Sylvan's so they've been donated to my Pompino and will be replaced by something lovely tomorrow.

  • Im a fixie newbie, never had one before, freshly given up mountain biking and my project is that i want to build a visp trx 790 off ebay up. i'm thinking this kinda spec :
charge bucket saddle, gusset bastard grips, weinmann dp18 wheelset, or cheapo deep Vs, Deda Elementi Cortissimo stem, or maybe a long normal road one, ritchey flat mtb bars 560mm (bit on the wide side), espresso cranks, espresso front brake, gusset urban drift pedals, shimano BB, halo tyres. everything needs to be cheap.
    anyone got any ideas?
    thanks,
    will.

  • espresso cranks, espresso front brake,

why not get some of their fine wheels too?

  • buy this

  • anyone got any ideas?

    Obviously not you.

Spend a few days reading the forum, you'll probably work out where you've gone wrong with your build list by yourself.

  • Get you wheels off varno.

Use 2nd road cranks, bars and stem from eBay.

Make sure your bar/stem set up is as cheap as possible so you can play about with different lengths and styles.

Read the definItive tyres list on here.

  • buy this

    +1

If it's the wrong size and u need a new frame get a nelson.

  • Just for example, instead of the horrible Cortissimo stem with its 50% hipster tax, get a Deda Zero 1 which is just as good at holding your handlebar at a fixed distance from your steerer:

  • yeh that looks neat. ive read alot about the visp frame and havent heard anything really bad about it?
im only 17 and at school so pretty much the whole build has to be cheapo. and it looks sweet for 150£ including the china postage.
ive actually got some nice old road cranks on an old bike but i cant find a socket that fits into the crank.
    thanks for the help guys,

  • Whut.

    ?

  • Socket

    (for xanderh)

    :)
