Ed got there 1st
+1 for Askiums, strong training wheels. You can get a pair for £140, and they're even quite fast.

I would say akisums are a bit heavy and pricey for what you get. Open pros laced to a 105 hub for the same cash. If it has to be factory look at fulcrums as they are bombproof with none of the freehub issues of the mavics.

Bar tape and brake (sorry), and a different wheelset (Omega V/Miche) running 49/16 now, much healthier cycle today.
Ah, and using a different jam jar stand

Nice but get a sliver seat post in there asap

I'm on it, searching for something nice

Cripsin, that's what I'm talking about. Where did you get it done? also repped for the Assos cream holding it up.
It was actually done by Mercian 41 years ago. I was going to get a similar thing done for my next frame but the price of chrome made my nuts regress to the size of M&Ms, then drop off.

Really nice setup.
Are you running a dummy lever on the LH side of the bars?

What bars, grips and levers are these?
Trying to find some nice grips for north road bars, turning into a challenge. -

Thanks! I don't have a dummy lever, I had got used to having them since riding geared bikes. So maybe I should, no hills round Norfolk tho, so it's less of an issue.

Trying to find some nice grips for north road bars, turning into a challenge.the bars are 25.4 VO left banks, the grips are just the cheep genetic veins (£7or so) which should fit your bars no problem.
the leavers are dia compe straight 135 road leavers. tbh although they're cheep and look the part, these leavers aren't very good. -

New bike. NOS Diamant, bought from rih. Transplanted everything over from my Rourke, treated it to new chainring, chain, tyres and bars.

£75 for a 105 hubset.
£76 for a pair of open pro.
Cost skyrocket to £151 and I hasn't even factor in the cost of a wheelbuild (between £20-50 for each wheel), nor the spokes and nipple.
I'd go for the handbuild option, but if I were to go for a decent budget wheel, it'll be either the Mavic Akisum or the Shimano R500.

Just finished my first build, a completely 50's restoration of a Hobbs of Barbican Blue Riband, 1952(ish!) Excluding the Saddle (to be replaced), Bartape and Toestraps...
Got a photographer at the studio Im assisting at to take a picture, but the purple on midnight blue colours came out pretty dark in this...

Dont madison still do a set prebuilt at your shop (m-part)? A brief browse of the bay shows new tiagra hubs laced to black open pros for 130pounds... Id still prefer them over akisums at around 1600g vs 1800g ish and when you have more cash you can switch out hubs for something nicer.

Ballpark figure? (i'm guessing four of them)

To be honest I would rather avoid the aksiums. Loud as hell. Prob just get the fulcram 7s
-
• #43075
unfortunately fulcrums will be louder... they are about the loudest freehub on the market. though really strong wheels in my experience. Rode the original 5s for a few years and they survived a few crashes and never needed truing.
the genesis was too tricky to handle while fixed when the front was fully loaded and the rear lifted almost constantly. so, with handling and saftey in mind i added an old free wheel and rear brake. i also got a new saddle for extra comfort. the ride is sweet and having a free wheel on it is muchos fun.
also the leader is finally finnished with new saddle, rear wheel and tires.
