  • re. Colnago lose the Nitto bars/stem and get a Cinelli set for £30 too

  • $250 is not worth it.

^^ those or similar would be better.

If it was sprayed that badly maybe you could try taking off the new paint to get back to the original. At least that way you'll know how it should be.

As for rims, go for the grey ano open pros or the Velo Orange silver rims.

  • scored from local "craigslist" ... nice chrome but paint has some rusty spots

    *

  • Good, fixed then. For now at least. Sumo, yes, period panto'd cranks probably the way forward. On the right bike, though, the Royal Flush is great, so you can't have that! ;)

MDCC - where's good for proper paint then? Cinelli and Velo Orange good tips too, thanks guys.

  • Royal Flush = expensive, instant anti-porn.
It's fuck ugly. Get a proper chainset.

  • hi, can anyone tell me how to tell if a frame/fork was originally intended to be run on 27 inch wheels? I'm new to building up old bikes and have just aquired a frame/fork that seem slightly miss-matched. Ta
    Nob

  • Borrow some wheels and try it out?
Is the frame english? How old is it? Do the frame and fork match?
    If in doubt, consult http://www.sheldonbrown.com

  • Edmundro, so everything expensive is anti-porn? Should I take the one off my beater?

  • Hey thanks,
I tried looking on sheldon brown... I'm still not sure. The frame is a Carlton from the 70's or 80's and the fork is a dave yates one that came to me with it. The brake reach is different on the fork and frame and the tyre clearances are different too. I tried the wkeels from my crosser.

that's not what he was saying.
    He's saying these

are horrible, and will never look good on a bike, ever.

I'm not sure when builders stopped building for 27" wheels, but obviously since the frame and fork are mismatched then brake reach could be different anyway due to the differing designs of the frames.

Either try and find a matching fork for the frame, or just use the bike with 2 wheels of the same size - obviously 700c is much more common and easier to find tires and tubes for etc..

  • @sumo ^this.
If it's gonna look that shit it should at least be cheap(like £25 tops)

@Nob, prob best off finding a 27" fork. 70's/80's Carltons that I've had were all 27". Or you could just go with odd sized wheels...

  • Fair enough, I see your point(s). As it happens they were a gift from the missus, so I will use them on something. And I rather like them.

Anyway, thanks all for the tips. Will keep you posted on the build.

  • paul stuff is extremely well built. i have the hubs and some of his brake levers. amazing cnc job.
design is not his forte though and those cranks are the ugliest cranks ever. I think he lucked out with the E lever. simple and clean.

unless you put them on a beach cruiser made for a rockabilly with a card theme. Ace of spades bike.

  • Motorhead themed 531 tourer perhaps?

  • Motorhead themed 531 tourer perhaps?

Would have to be a Raleigh Lizard, surely?

  • Thats 4 in use.

I have loads of various sports shoes in the loft. A fair few unused in boxes, including some pretty nasty Lidl road shoes.

    It's not a competition....

  • Are tourers allowed in here? If not look away now.

    Condor after:

    apologies for chocolate box backdrop

    Condor before:

  • Good job!
Is your stem much higher in the 'after' pick?

  • Old one was ITM gold thing and too short (height) so now it's a nitto technomic deluxe at max (or is that min?) insertion.
Scherrit tested my stretching ability and it was 0.

    so yes quite high

  • Sexist.

I dislike the E-lever, personally, I find the sharp edges uncomfortable and it's very expensive. Also:

Because of its compact design the E-Lever has less leverage than our other brake levers. For this reason we cannot recommend it for use as the sole method of stopping

That's a pretty big design fail in my book.

  • I've got one, it works well enough on a fixed gear bicycle when it is only used infrequently.

Never had a problem with the edges being sharp.

    It looks good=it is good

  • That's why I said "personally". YMMV, etc.

  • My sister was just given a Fort 2x1000, anybody know anything about them? It's badged up as a Veto.
