  • Finally building up a track bike for hearne hill. Should be ready by the time they open in two weeks!
Im waiting on delivery for this frame

Now I need to decide on bars, stem, seatpost and saddle. what should i go for.....

Ha! We did a "simulation" of your bike at SE drinks! Hope you will listen to what people say here (i.e. Mdc Tester, etc) and not go for the fugly carbon seat post! Design is solid plain simple and effective without it!! Don't trust Reen, never!

    Good luck with the build!

    Loic

  • ^awesome. I say go for the bladed seatpost :P

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

    This is no:

, because it's like regretting your frame cannot fit this:

This is YES (Or something in the same spirit), love your frame (which is great BTW, love the BB detail) and be consistent!

    Let's vote!!

    L

(PS - sorry for big pics, we had a passionnate pub conversation on that...)

    this:

  • Both options are shite.

Seatpost and seat tube should have the same profile. Aero tubes + round posts = gash

    • 1 but he cannot amend his frame , and FTFY (kindof)
  • Got given this Raleigh Winner frame for free (it was apparently going on the scrap heap) and set about reviving it as a SS for thr girlfriend. Hopefully it will be making an appearance for Ride East on Sunday, still needs a front brake, brake pads and a chain...

  • Oh and Xander you've stolen my exact plan for building up another track bike, i'm looking at ordering a Track Champion frame and fitting an aero carbon seatpost. Fucking students...

  • Exactly, it's still a brakeless track bike, only now it's a brakeless track bike with a basket on it that doesn't handle very well when you put stuff in the basket..

    true, but why not
    its a project in progress...
the wald basket is hopefully only temporary until i can get something custom made for it.

must point out that the WALD basket isn't terribly stable after a moderate load so I doubt eddie will fill it up with his weekly shopping in it.

yeah the attachment system isnt the best. however i did manage to ride it with almost a weeks shop in there - doesn't hurt your back but dangerous on the potholes.

  • thought i'd share my mudguard solutions. I got some shiny (stainless steel apparently) 27" full mudguards at MCR velojumble, but the bits for attaching to the seatstay eyelets had been cut off (rusted/fused to original bike maybe?). So i replaced the wire/spoke things with bent coat hangers. It was rattly as to start with, but once I used a section of old inner tube to hold the front of the rear mudguard to the chainstay bridge thing and a week of grime to bed it in, its whisper quiet now! Here are some shitty photos which probably explain nothing...

  • I feel like the fad for front racks isn't bourne out by 'for a purpose'. I never see anyone actually carrying anything much on theirs ... myself included.

speak for yourself. anyway it's not that you carry stuff often, its that you can carry stuff. and do. kinda like a truck. that bike up there is just silly though. especially being brakeless.

  • ...very old 3-sp Sturmey Archer AW hub ...Like ed says though, don't shift when pedalling or you'll pull the cable clamp apart (done it twice now...)

Is this only true of the old ones, or is it the same with all of them? I thought changing gear when not pedalling was a bonus, not a must???

    ...
new ring too, painted in same colour scheme. ***Does that make me hipster yet? ***I have a ring to match my .......woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I don't think it was the ring that did it ;)

Nowhere fast ... bob your uncle.
    ..

    Repped.

why not put together the cheapest single speed basket bike you can? Find a old ten speed at some pawn shop. find some three speed bars. find a decent single speed rear wheel. your done. It's not impossible to get a bike together for nearly free. you already have the basket. and because the basket attaches to the hub directly, you can use almost any bike you can find; neither strength, nor mounting systems are a concern.

and for the record, i do know what i'm talking about.

Can anyone remind me of the blog post / FGZZzz thread that had a basket with some sort of webbing to strap things down with? It might have been some trendy Scando moulded wooden thing.

While in motion, pedalling through the changing of gear is not recommended with internal hubs generally, much like changing gear in a car without depressing the clutch.

If you change gear while pedalling, you'll feel a grind, and occasionally won't shift until a couple second later or till you backpedal a bit and give it some welly.

i remember it, and i rememebr it being stoooopid

  • Bladed aero seatposts can look alright, but I agree with Vello.
However, as long as something like this

doesn't go near it, then it's fine.

  • This front rack is the best of all, it's heavier than the average, but it's removable, supported by the downtube instead of the fork (won't affect steering), and able to carry a decent amount of weight, for the price of £70, it's a decent buy;

  • To add to the conversation.. I just finished my project with the stripped Track Champion.. Off to make bad phone pics..

ive been thinking about buying this....

    ;)

Or just wait until a second hand one comes up on here and in the mean time use the "soft cheese" miche supertype....

  • would you like a cracker to go with that miche?
Just make sure you get one in the right size so you don't have a load of normal seatpost showing.

It's also fitted to a bike with disc brakes and a triple fork crown.

yeah you're absolutely right, but why make the predictable and waste time on something someone else already has done.

I enjoy building the bike as much as riding it, so why not have some originality and experiment. I'd rather ride a frankenstein creation that is shite and built how **I **want it rather than the perfect bike that has been assembled from someone elses opinions.
not sure if this makes sense, but you know what i mean

i need to build it up first with a normal seatpost so i know what kind of size i need and the guesstimate from there

    Yep. Totally valid.
