Hmm.. Staying aside from the alu/carbon discussion, there's this site in NL that sells really cheap carbon Woodman posts.. I'm planning on getting one, 600 grit sand away the horrid branding, gloss lacquer, done.. (I've found someone doing that on a dutch forum.. He lives to tell the tale so I trsut it's safe) Postage is only 13,95 (in euro's) to GB too..

I did this on a pair of Easton forks because of the horrid branding .. If they haven't mentioned it on the forum you're reading use plenty of water when sanding so any dust when you reach the carbon is washed off and not floating in the air ready to be breathed in

i've had two fail after riding somewhere on them.
(not just looking pretty)my 11 stone was clearly too much for them.
the work by a set of little teeth which wear down rapidly in the process of finding the sweet spot for the saddle, and then miss and you end up riding to a train station somewhere in surrey/ more recently Derbyshire without a seat.
fun times. -

I used 1200 grit wet and dry and plenty of water which took longer but I was a chicken sh*t about actually removing any of the carbon from the fork and damaging it ..

wow. looks 1,000,000 times better.
Did you just laquer the area you sanded or the whole outside of the fork again?
Hows it held up?
-
• #37319
isn't that an intergrated fork?
-
• #37320
I thought the eastons were bi...ummm...bi-grated?

I lightly sanded the laquer in the areas I wasn't removing decals from afterwards to give a "key" for the laquer and then re sprayed the whole fork again. So far it has held up the same as if it had decals .. been riding it since May (weekend rides and evening in the summer only as it's on the road bike) although I checked it before each ride initially for damage - paranoid!
And yes, the fork has a small crown area which Easton claim is suited to integrated and standard headsets .. although I my opinion it would get lost on an fat tubed integrated headset and is a bit biggger then my KCNC headset I'm using, so not perfect on inspection. A King with it's fatter bearing housing would probably produce a cleaner look.

Did you buy lightweight laquer or did you just use the normal heavy stuff?

This happens to all Thomson seatposts. Fact.
Perhaps mdcc tester can verify this for me. But the way the metal looks white where it cracked shows that it was defective stock alloy which wouldve been prone to failure.

Planet-x are selling these cheap.
http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/SPFSSLK/fsa-sl-k-carbon-seatpostIf you want to spend more, syntace are always good.
I have the FSA one on my Graham weigh. It is a lot more comfortable than the cheal alu one I had previously.
I had to glue the clamp back in with epoxy. It has been fine since.

Bit of a misnomer that. Hilary prices up frames sky high. £15 frames from a cycle jumble for £80-100.
But your frame, and bike for that matter do look pretty great.
Most his parts are more fairly priced. Have you guys been to many cycle jumbles? You'd get what I mean. Hilary seems to have hoarded a lot of stuff that wouldve probably been at a cycle juble at some point. When all this nice community spirited affordable stuff dissappears to ebay businessmen its a little annoying.
Im just bitter. Ill shut up now.
Saying they're overweight is a bit obtuse. They are light seatposts.
At least they are made of metal.
