  • Look fine as it is, if you're looking for a deeper section rims (deep v shaped), you'll find it heavier, slower, and slightly harder against the wind.

if you like how it ride, stick with it.

  • low-profile rims ftw

that orrell would look awesome with a black turbo!

    this is a good page

  • that orrell would look awesome with a black concor!

    Ftfy.

  • I recently got a NOS campagnolo pista crankset but neither me or the seller have any idea as to whether the chainring is 1/8 or 3/32. I know i could just run a 1/8 chain and it would still work fine but it would still be nice to know. The chainring is still in the packaging and states that it is a pista ring so I know its not a standard road version. Does anyone know a way of identifying the difference?

  • Measure it?

  • how do you measure it? The space between the top of each tooth?

  • Nah, mdcc that's the dumbest idea ever. why would you suggest that?

  • No, measure the thickness of the teeth. 1/8" = 3.2mm, 3/32" = 2.4mm. You'll need a vernier calliper or micrometer.

  • Have you got a 1/8 or 3/32 chainring to hand? Holding that up to it will be the quickest way of ascertaining the size of the new one.

  • Good luck with the SS build. I too ride a Langster, 2010 version and it has been a blast all year for me (riding fixed). You've also got me thinking I would love to build me a fixie from scratch so I'm going to make that happen in 2011.

  • Pompinos are pretty awesome, and you've got good taste in components. You can do it for cheaper, but not much better.

  • For the British Lightweight project, I've just got the NOS 3 speed 1/8th freewheel block;

it's a bit heavier than I though (300g), reading the instruction on adjusting the 3 speed derailleur, it stated that the chainline should be perfect on the middle cog, and with a 3/32 chainring on the front, the wear and tear shouldn't be much of an issue (especially with modern chain).

the cog size is 16-19-22, so pair with a 47t chainring, I'll get a GI of 79.3, 66.8 and 57.7, a good range I'd like to think.

Hubs is on it's way too, design for a 3 speeds cassette, all that left really is 27" alu rims.

  • The Pompino is an excellent choice, strong frame with mount for canti, mudguard, rack and still have room for fatter tyres.

Get the on-one headset (smoothie I think it's called), while Chris King headset are fantastic, it's not exactly a *necessity *to have them on every bike.

good choice on the white industries freewheel though, they're quieter and smoother than the alternative.

As for chainset, you got a huge range of choice, the sugino messenger is a trustworthy chainset that work exactly as it should, but that doesn't mean other cheaper version are not as good, (The Sugino RD chainset is slightly cheaper than the messenger, and it doesn't have the super-thick chainring, should be lighter too).

What you've describe is a project, so it'd be best in the Current Project topic so everyone can able to see what you're (and other's) up to.

  • Is that made in Tysley?

  • Hey guys, thanks for your comments, keep them coming,

Good idea for the current project, if a moderateur can move me please

For info wheels order, delivery next week

  • Lynskey almost there. Hope to pick it up from my mechanic man on Saturday. Not completely sure about the bars but will see how it goes. My brief was to make myself an unassuming commuter. Not sure if I've quite pulled it off but looking forward to finding out...

    Thats so nice!

Absolutely my first chioce of components throughout. Quality Ti frame, stiff carbon fork, and lightweight wheels. Should be a blast to ride.

Sounds like you have three nice GI's there. High speed cruising, city stop/start, and hill climbing.

    Nice sounding set-up.

  • Wow, bar the frame and handlebars, that's amost exactly my ideal build!

    However, unassuming commuter?

  • Man the Ti's are really doing it for me right now, that Lynksey is totally dope.

  • .....all that left really is 27" alu rims.

Might have some rims, send me a Prime Minister if you're still looking.

  • Once I got the hubs and find out how many holes it got, I'll Paul Merton you.

    Nice sounding set-up.

it offer a better range of gear than an internal hubs and without the weight penalty of one (SA 3spd hubs - 1060g, derailleur + 3 spd cassette - 600g).

  • Have you ordered the hubs? If not, I've got hubs too. Send me a Perry Mason.

  • The toughest thing has been resisting the urge to get a lynskey ti seatpost. I've gone for a 3T one fir now but a few beers and pc access may force a purchase...
