  • Also just realised the cable pull is stiff and juddery compared to my road bike. I'm hoping it's just shit routing and I don't have to fork out for new outers and inners.

Check the canti bushings and posts for excesive wear / pitting too.

  • That's quite an angle you got there on that bullhorn, doesnt that hurt your wrists?

    Nope, actually it dont.
Mostly use it when pulling up hills.
Don´t know if Ill keep on there tough, we´ll see...

  • Some photos of the frames lugs, anyone know what it could be?
    Cheers!

  • Get a top cap with integrated 3mm spacer ;-)

I've come to the conclusion that must be plugging your own wares, you conniving fox you.

That would only be true if I were selling them. Anybody who wants one is welcome to the drawings, but I'm not about to go into business on my own account, as I feel the market for £20+ top caps may be a bit limited.

    20 notes for a 30g saving*, and a neater, safer set-up?

    They'd fly off the shelves.

The average price difference between a 100g stem and a 130g stem must be a lot more than 20 notes.

(*over the admittedly porky sounding look system)

  • In fact dibs.

  • And another current project is this Motobecane:

I think theres potential for it hopefully it won't be too long before I'm posting the after pics.

Finally finished! Took a whole week sourcing parts and giving it a complete overhaul and clean. Really happy with the result looks quite traditional. 1x7 gears with barcon, almost everything has been replaced.

It rides great now much better than I was even hoping for. It will be in the classifieds soon....

No, but looks pretty cheap to me (so, no high end).
Builder didn't spend too much time and money on fancy parts and finish.
Could be a really fine and quality bike though, with it's R531 tubing, round blades, tight clearances, ...

Since I'm not the strongest man and not a downhiller, I could even skip the topcap and star fangled nut / expander after adjusting the headset and tightening the stem.
But I'm overweighted too, so weightweenying wouldn't make sense.

  • The dale arrived and looks better than I expected.

  • Is that the frame Jessica Alba rode around on in Dark Angel? With the Spinergy front wheel.

  • nice catses

  • My Mash as it stands at the mo. After Christmas it is being stripped with new updated decals.

Probably, it's not the only one though.

I remember seeing that bike in the first episode many years ago...

  • New decals just arrived from llyods for my carlton build. I'm more excited than I should be about what are essentially six expensive stickers. lol

I had a nightmare last night, put on another coat of lacquer on forks before the coat underneath must have fully dried, and watched the paint crumple up before my eyes.

Had to sand it back today with wet and dry and respray the paint to smooth it out, lesson learned about rushing coats of lacquer. all sorted now though :)

Will do the primer for frame later, Couldnt start it until a new chain extractor arrived from ebay due to my LBS only having one that was £14! lol

daily rider. Fixed gear, platforms and a rear brake. it's supposed to be single speed, just aven't got the correct freewheel.

  • yea thats a continuous piece of housing for the rear brake with one rubber band holding it.

i've really tried to kill that black bike. it just won't die. 7 years of hard work that things given me. nasty winters, too.

  • fixed wheels with 2 brakes is damn comfortable, it's surprisingly how much relaxing it is to ride without relying on your legs to brakes (even with front brake only).

    It's an IRO, right?

edit - just notice it hasn't got a front brake, whoop! you should check out the S2C though, 2 speed kickback coaster brake hubs.

Most of the weight saving is in the bonded-in plug, which has to be custom sized for each different fork.

    Yeah, my thoughts also.
Didn´t cost me much and is serving as a everyday bike, so it´s all good.
Mostly interested if some one recognize the lugs...

yes IRO. thing with this bike is that i put zero dollars into it. it's all just parts i find floating around in the tide. i'm too cheap to even buy a freewheel for it. It didn't have brake for the longest time, but my friend wanted to ride it for a weekend and was afraid of platforms and no brake. this brake set up was already a togethered unit to i threw it on quickly.

i don't think i've ever oiled the chain. the tires are 3 years old. it has 4 layers of paint on it which i don't even take the bike apart to apply. notice the paint on the front wheel and rear brake.

    lovely bike to ride though.

much of the cheapness appearance may be from the thick paint. the edges of the lugs badly finished. I'm sure part of that is the lugs themselves, but the paint isn't helping.

i wouldn't do anything about it. maybe rattle can it black. just ride the thing.

  • anyone of you has a workstand i can borrow for a week or so? Currently building two bikes and i am tired of working on the carpet. Would buy one but i am leaving the country soon.
    cheers
