  • Just finished this build for my sister, mainly bits and bob I had lying about, rattlecanned it was horrible blue before. Is actually a univega frame which rides really well. She's just had her first ride on it back from kings x and said she really enjoyed it. Shame about the clearances wish I'd put some big chunky schwalbes on it or summat, still will be quicker on those michelin. Was lucky with magic gear, perfect first time with a chain I already used so hopefully won't slacken up too much!

  • Love this tel! proper beater, looks stupid fun too

Converted Hardrock mtb frame to accept 700c wheels. As beater as I could make it. Tyres are a bit good though but; odd wheels, odd brakes (inc rust), odd crank arms, bodged ss conversion, really tatty Concor and bars with hardly any tape and old levers.

Be doing quite a bit of night riding so intend to wrap some reflective tape around stays and forks and of course fit some lights.

Some sort of mudguard would also be good.

Thing is my daughter likes it! That wasn't the idea!!!

  • +1 for Tel's bike.
    Porn!

  • I could make it look nice in the meantime just taken this on the track first ime I have ever ridden a disc felt great I need a tri spoke now and think I will chop the steerer now it feels about right height.

TrySpoke is best avoided, they are a bit flexy for proper track riding. 4 Spoke HM corima is a much better option for about the same money.

Glad you got your position sorted :-)

  • new winter/off-road/cx bike.

going to slowly upgrade over time.

Just need cables and levers to make it rideable, then a new crankset and chainguides (currently is a stronglight with a weird bcd), salsa stem, inline seatpost (most probably) and eventually a new wheelset and drivetrain (1x8 or 1x9).

  • Quick opinion -

A carlton corette mixte frame in metallic blue - gum wall tyres or totally black?

I'm plumping for some raleigh gumwall as I like the period tread design of them, But am I being stupid? Do raleigh still have tyres made for them or do you recon these are nos?

  • new 853 tourer, few questions:

who is mike kowal? really good buuild but only one hilarystone decrip. on the web.

whats the biggest tyre i can fit on cxp30/14s? these are the wheels i will be using.

can i fit a front rack? not much weight, just to chuck stuff in while i'm pootling about town.

    thanks guys

  • 32c would be the max recommendation (any larger you may need touring rims).

You can fit a front rack, but it'll affect the handling even with slight load, you got mount for a rear rack though.

    However you can put something like this with p-clip on;

It also mean it won't stiffen the fork like a normal rack that's attach to the fork-end (the rake on the fork provide some comfort), and be able to carry a handlebar bag, I have something similar on my road bike, handle better than a porteur rack.

  • ^ where do you get this from?!

  • first post so be gentle with me....

just completed my first ss project after a mis-spent youth on mountain bikes.

Frame is a vintage steel road frame found on ebay which had already been stripped down to bare metal and coated - plan is to get it painted soon, most probably glossy black - any thoughts?

  • SS with two brakes, you've made a good start!

  • change all the white bits for black bits

  • do what you feel like and ride it.

  • ^ where do you get this from?!

    His frame or the rack?

    The rack's Velo Orange.

  • His frame or the rack?

    yeah the rack - thanks

  • Built a couple of months ago. Shimano 105 groupset and Mavic Aksium wheelset on pretty rare Columbus Genius Reparto Corse Frame.

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

  • Excellen^^. I always keep my eyes open for Genius tubed frames, very nice stuff.

  • That Bianchi is simply lovely.

  • @coolbeanz did you do that overnight brighton ride?

  • Bike i'm doing up..

    custom built early eighties Benotto.

Just melted a whole in the seat post! trying to get the blasted thing out.

  • dont hurt it please :)

  • custom built early eighties Benotto

2nd half 1980s I would say, with that paint job.
    85-86-87 or so.

  • The lo-pro is away for winter and the old track path is back.
Rory O'Brien track path frame from the 60's(?), mudguards, 28c Schwalbe Marathon tyres, 3t drops, wanted hoods so I figured I might as well put both brakes on anyway. Really happy with it.
