  • Ok cheers, still none the wiser but nevermind.

  • I was under this impression too...
How common are 1" threaded carbon forks anyway?

They always have loads of them in the hens teeth shop :-)

Why would anyone bother making one as the steel steerer would defeat a lot of the light weight gains that can be had with a carbon fork and I find a full steel fork to be just as comfortable as a carbon one.

  • Was thinking exactly that.

  • Ok cheers, still none the wiser but nevermind.

the clamp around the bar will look neater when they are on the right way and you may find you want to angle the levers down a bit or risk a bit of tendonitis

  • Yeah, see what you mean now. I'll get onto it.

Nice to see it built up, thanks for sharing.

nice looking build. what bar tape have you used. it looks more padded than he fizik microtex stuff than i have just fiited on by gf's bike

Ever want to sell the gitane, let me know. I'll buy it back off you.

    Always regretted selling that frame!

@Tel... thanks, glad you like it, been after a decent weekend bike for months.

@dm80, it's some vintage italian stuff from bricklane, maybe selle italia. they've got plenty, about a tenner i think.

@snoops, you've said that before! i've found some replacement decals on eBay so i think it's a keeper i'm afraid...

  • gah FML!

  • I think I just received enough material for this winters projects. It was dead cheap too.

  • wowwwwww!
so thats an olmo, cinelli, colnago and whats the last one?

  • shit the bed

  • Surely running tyres at a pressure that low will give you utterly wank handling?
I can also see it incurring masses of resistance, as well as fat tyres adding rolling weight...

Not if the tyres is capable of rolling at 20psi, it's not a skinny tyres that need a high psi just to keep it properly inflated.

Rolling resistance isn't bad actually as most people would think, especially in the wet where it rolls beautifully.

Remember you do lose speed with skinny tyres on bad surface, it was easier to ride on those tyres which glide through the worse of london's famous london.

  • Fair enough, maybe i just prefer thinner tyres...

    It was dead cheap too.

    lies!

  • I think I just received enough material for this winters projects.

jeeeeeeez, that's a lifetime's worth of finds! are they actually covered in mud?

  • wowwwwww!
so thats an olmo, cinelli, colnago and whats the last one?

    Its another Olmo

jeeeeeeez, that's a lifetime's worth of finds! are they actually covered in mud?

Yes they have been hanging in the roof in the attic of an old velodrome for ages somewhere in the east bloc, I told the seller not to clean them, donĀ“t know why but I really like ratty worn dirty bikes.

  • Well it may be worth cleaning them to ensure the frame is sound.

  • he might find it better to delude himself

  • that the screw is showing in the top of the clamp

    That is fashionable these days:
    gold finger
    dirt harry
    dia compe double shot

  • I think I just received enough material for this winters projects. It was dead cheap too.

    poor behaviour, very poor behaviour
you're only justified by the fact that all of these frames appear to by under 58cm, so wouldn't fit me anyway

  • New build, Romet track frame originally bought from slimjim http://www.lfgss.com/thread48707.html

    http://www.lfgss.com/picture.php?albumid=523&pictureid=8974

It's already taken me across the south of france after falling into a canal in paris, very chuffed

  • They're pretty cold yeah and very murky. The only snag was forgetting to take my phone and wallet out of my pocket. Well worth it though! Fortunately the bike was alright, it only developed a small amount of surface rust on the top tube and chain....still rides like a dream

  • What're you doing to the trackonndale?

    This aimed at me?

It's getting all the black paint cleaned off, drivetrain cleaned, new chain, new tyres, new bartape... Headset from the road bike is going on it 'til I get another Chris King.

Max i had some of those Tifosi forks and they were pretty bulletproof - however i don't think that they are going to make any noticeable difference to the weight of the bike, as they have an alloy steerer - to make any real weight saving on the dale, i would have though only a carbon steerer is going to do the trick due to the size of the bike, but i woyuldnt want to use a carbon steerer for couriering me self

I think even if the steerer is aluminum it will still make a significant difference to the weight*. For example, the weight of my track frame on it's own ( no fork) is fucken astonishing. It's like it is filled with helium.

I don't really care about making my bike super light, I just know it'll be a lot lighter if I ditch the steel.

I thought the fork was needed to permit an upgrade to threadless

Yeah this. The only reason my bikes have quill stems is because my forks say so.

  • Why the need for a Chris King? are you that manly enough to ruin headset like a disposable chopstick?

  • The only headset I will ever buy. It's a bike geek thing.

Ahh yeah and it also happens to be the best headset money can buy.*

    *Not an argument.

  • But it's not as they won't pay Cane Creek the licence on their conical shim*.

*this licence runs out at the end of the month

  • I know about this. Still will only buy King.
