my god there are some amazing bikes between us on this forum. as soon as i get my first paycheck i'm going to blow a packet on the build i've had buzzing round my head for the last six months. i suppose that's my current project!

Now do i go for a Black or White chain?
racist

I like.
@Miro - Are those alf web frames not so good - I was liking the price for a first fixed build.

Great frame for the price - horrible painjob

black chain

• #3433
vinylvillain, i'd say fuck it and get a white halflink, given the black chainring and sprocket. It's nice to have adjacent components contrast one another. this is the only bike i can think of that one would look good on.
by the way i absolutely love it, especially the disc setup. better than a gyro! five stars *****

Paint can be easily sorted - thanks.

black chain
Yup i agree - i think White would give it a touch of the Unipack!
Edit - think i'll try both and then decide

How did you apply the paint in the end? Can imagine a normal airbrush would get clogged up pretty quick with that.
I actually took a very DIY approach to it which is both good and bad now....Rattle Cans FTW
I primed the frame and then gave it about four coats of black, then rubbed it down and put on a coat of lacquer and when the lacquer was still wet I just masically dusted the frame with the flake and lacquered over it...
Only problem now is that it's taking a monumental amount of lacquer to cover all the flake fully and get it nice and smooth so I'm just smothering it in coats of lacquer and when I have it all covered I'll give it a rub to even out any inconsistencies/drips and then put on a finish coat and buff it.
Probably would have been cheaper/easier to bring it to some Boyracer Bodyshop and hand over frame and flake and let them at it but the satisfaction of doing it myself is better :D

I appreciate that;)
Give it a while though, once the sun hits this frame it'll blind anyone and anything in a 300metre radius... I hope :D

Good work - puttin that amount of effort into a build is always rewarding

Cheers mate, likewise, you've proven the saying to be incorrect by actually polishing a turd to the point where it's a lustrous pearl, it's looking absolutely brilliant, one of the most fun looking bikes I've seen in ages, would love to try it!

VV you sniped that Alf from under my nose and our ideas for it are amazingly similar except mine would be for polo.
Bloody great job there mate.
I'll put up pics of the Pengster as soon as I can.

My girlfriend was doing some Xmas card pics of some toddlers recently. So I sneaked my current build in. Things were'nt really set up for taking pics of a bike, so they're not great. My 2yo insisted on taking the shots. I really like the accidental wheel pic (hes not quite strong enougth for a big digital SLR yet).

As 'villain said they're fine (i've not ridden one though, i imagine they're CheapDolan/Langster/Bowery quality).
The paint and graphics... just means no-one will want to nick it!
I do need to adjust brake lever - up a bit for clearance - its ASM's old Alf Web! Forks are Bontranger Satelite Elite Cyclocross forks - you cant buy them in the UK, but i found a set on Ebay.
