^^ there seems to be a correlation between really nice bikes and untidy gardens.

I don't like the curve on the top of drops. The little bump on the top of the Airwings was pissing me off as well and I needed some OS bars for my new stem so went for risers with a 5% sweep and a little bit of rise. I used to have drops and very very rarely actually used the drops, I only liked them for the brake hoods.
Had to change wheelsets cos my 25mm Marathon Pro's wouldn't fit the track fork and couldn't be arsed taking them off the rims. -

Bar settup is a personal choice.
I've found a really good setup for riding in london are modern drops that are a bit too big. I'm running some random Bontrager compact drops I got for a fiver from BLB that have hardly any curve with are as wide on the flats as you'll ever need.
Bit like these:

When anyone else clicks the link, does the first 25% view of the bike make it look like it's got a ribbed seatpost?

Hows the cornering on the Visp? ever had pedal strike?

Whats the PX stem like in the flesh? - one of the nicer aheads out there imo.

Glad you like it guys :)
No toe overlap or pedal strike, and I lean quite far.
The stem is proper nice, really smooth lines and feels solid but so very light. -

I take issue with this.
First, an old mtb with slicks is never the practical choice.
Yes it is .. rolls just as fast as a road bike (at least mine does), can chuck it round corners quick, however really stable, brakes stop you from 15mph to nothing in half the time than a road/fixed. Only bad thing is you can't get out of the wind easily ... oh and mine is a SS so less parts as well. I need to see over anything I can just stand up.

^ sounds like an on one il pompino would have been the practical choice ;)
Like I said my point was more about choosing the right tool for the job. Why did you strip your mtb to ss and put slicks on? Equally whats the point of having an old racer built up as effectively a touring bike if you're only using it for relatively short journies?
The MTB comment was based on my thought process when I see ppl commuting on mtb's with supsension, racks, paniers, etc. huffing and puffing and not going anywhere very fast.

Picked this up in France at the weekend. Its a Tigra Professional, from the late seventies. Tigra were a high end Swiss manufacturer of race bikes, having there own TDF Team back in their heyday - alas now from what little history i can find the name is owned by Trek, and put on generic hybrids for the german market these days.
Its built from Durifort (Predecessor to Vitus) double butted tubing, and has beautiful lug work and touches. They guy i got it off was about 85, and had been using it for TTing up until last year when he had a knee op, and had taken great care of it - has a full Arabesque group set, except for the crankset, and he upgraded the wheelset to 105 hubs and Mavic MA2 Rims at some time.
I have taken off the drops and put some risers on, and will be using it for rides with the Mrs, but will probably put them back on when i source an Arabesque crankset. Then again i will prob end up selling it as i dont have room for another bike!
On a side note the Criterium 2000 saddle is one of the comfiest i have sat on, which was a bonus as i expected it to be a pain in the ass.

this bike looks giant compared to that chair. It would look great as a tilt shift PS jobbie.

Strange how small that chair is Ed, considering the width of your much talked about sit-bones

Why did you strip your mtb to ss and put slicks on?
full rigid MTB, 26" slicks, converted to single speed...
FTW!
