Dunno if you have this sorted yet but to remove the fixed bb cup turn it CLOCKWISE to undo it. When I say turn it I mean apply the biggest spanner you can find (I have a great big adjustable) and whack it sharply with a mallet!

Headset cups remove from inside the headtube with a long screwdriver by resting it on the lip of the cup and whacking with a mallet. I actually prefer a pair of straight bars to a screwdriver.

The fork crown race needs hitting with your screwdriver and mallet from the underside.

I hate headsets especially on older bikes.

;-) yeah the sale of this one is going to pay for the restoration of both .............. there were two. like i said, i got lucky.

    quite a birthday present!

    yeah

  • henry, have you heard of the aquabats?

Fortunately, it got sorted before you came along with your one-piece tool kit

To a man with only a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

It's the only tool in my tool box. Great for getting off cranks too....

    spoke keys are for pussies...

  • just noticed the other frame is in fact a condor

  • Well done G. Looks like that will take some work.

  • henry, have you heard of the aquabats?

    not till now...
    why?
will give them a listen later.

  • it'll pay for itself the pedals are these they need servicing and rechroming though

  • @ Jammy, are those bars 660mm wide? I've not been able to find any slightly narrower (I don't think they exist). would be great if they made some where the middle section was a 15mm or so narrower on each side. also, do you know what the diameter of the bit that sticks out front, that you've got your levers on? would be interesting to see if you could get a grip shifter on there - would keep it out of the way, but still within a reach for ease of use.

I've been thinking more about (again for the project that is still only exists in my head thus far) using some on-one midge bars with one of those bar end adapter thingys for the grip shift, but I feel that would take ages to get used to and I doubt i'd really use the drops to ride in, so might be a little bit of a waste. not sure. this whole 22.2mm diameter of a grip shift is a real pain.

NOS with original box = $300
Refurbished = less than the cost of the chrome plating

The forward extension is 22.2 standard MTB size. Doubt you'd get a grip shift around the curve though.
Jeff Jones, who designed them will still do custom versions with whatever width you like but they're titanium so not cheap.

  • I expect custom titanium bars would be a little out of my price range, but thanks for the info.

  • now THIS sounds really interesting..

Is it gonna be complicated job to finish? if not I want to make the same!
so I should buy one of old SA front light that has a built in switch, and that screw in LED replacement then.
Let me know how it goes, I want to see the result :-)

not with a 50 lumens LED replacement they're not =)

I'm currently working on 'project Sturmey Archer' - turning an old SA front light with a built in switch into a battery powered (via internal battery pack) LED superlight (using one of these - a screw in LED replacement)

  • /attachments/29533This has been a current project for a year.Just added the Suntour cranks, might change ring size. This was bordering on being sold as is last week.
But i'll put it away 'till next year when i can add some wheels.

  • Donkey Rhubarb that is very nice indeed.

  • This is what'll be absorbing my time over the next few weeks

  • finally got round to getting a poncy photo of the girlfriends bike that was completed on thursday, the build itself was designed to be under £100 for the whole lot and it was managed with a huge thanks to East end Images for the brake levers, George sportif for the bike and balinda? at condor cycles for posting me the bar tape at short notice and with next day delivery at a discount!, the gf loves it so again a big thanks to all that helped me build it up for her.

    full set

  • Malaysian, unless you're trying to derail the whole forum, I suggest you keep your motorcycle in the Motorcycle thread. Its not appropriate in this thread.....which is meant for bicycle projects.

Also, if you care to go back to the Motorcycle thread, and examine the first 2 pages, you will realise that your bike is nothing like as beautiful to others, as it is to you. Its plain, ugly and boring. If you want to "show off" there, get a Moto Guzzi, and Ducati, or even a Buell....but that manky nonsense is meant for old people, or people with no imaginations at all. Its shit. Really, really, really shit.

  • OOH, get her!
