  • I've done some major changes. The bar end plugs are changed and new. And also I have (on purpose) cut two holes in the bar tape on the left hand side of the handlebar drop (due to not scratching my bike against a wall)

My current project - is riding.

  • I love your bike, Eddie.

  • Heheh don't take this bike seriously. It is my pub/beater/joke

probably gonna strip down the paint and clearcoat the aluminum after polishing it in a few weeks.

I'd ride that, if it had drop bars. I actually quite like the paint. It's the same colour as Euthymol toothpaste.

Yeah man, leave it pink! Looks like a fun build!

That stuff should seriously be banned, it's ludicrously addictive.

  • And tidy your room.

It could have cocaine, heroin, opium etc in it. It is Victorian after all.

  • For fuck sake!

The bolt has fucking snapped on the fork's eyelit, the part where I need to mount the rack and the mudguard.

    argh!

Oddly enough, the back one was fine, so it wasn't a case of using the wrong size bolt.

Thinking of drilling it to get it out, any tips?

Did you manage to get this sorted Ed?

I have just removed 2 bolts that had snapped off and left the remains inside the cog with nothing exposed.
If needed, Dremmel flat, or centre punch the end of the bolt to get you started. Drill a hole into the snapped bolt as large as you can without hitting the threads (you should be able to feel the different metal when drilling to avoid damage)
then hammer the pointed end of a small metal file into the hole. Mole grip the file and turn, hopefully (as long as you've bitten the bolt with the edge of file) the bolt will turn with it. As I say, worked twice without a problem. threads undamaged and good as new.

Now, I can't figure out whether thread lock is a good thing, or bad. I assume these bolts snapped when he previous owner tried to remove them.

  • My new ride, just picked it up at a discount store instead of going the old beater route, for £66.60. Hell yeah!

  • wow that looks fast, loves it

Jesus.. my mate had one of those. Dont expect it to (a)change gear (b)brake

  • It was a joke.... It's called the Devil.... This is page 666... Oh forget it.

  • These are the kind of lugs you want lined! Amazing.

Don't think those are lugs. The headtube is probably cast with that pattern it it.

What? They are plainly lugs. you can see the other end on the downtube. Also, a cast headtube? I'm no expert, but I've never heard of such a thing...

  • @glockart - lovely looking bike but sort those pedals out!

from what i've seen these can only be ridden on the pavement whilst wearing a tracksuit, with only your heels on the pedals.

... and those people who manage to pedal with really wide knees, if that makes sense to anyone.

  • like Pete Sampras?

Local bike shop is helping me sort this out, as well as removing the stuck BB (plastic!), the local mechanic told me it's no problem and can easily find a way to removed it.

You can make the head tube with sockets for the top and down tubes in one piece (like Vitus alloy and carbon frames, for example), and there is no reason why you couldn't cast in a fake lug pattern while you're at it.

  • @upsart I reassure you these pedals are just to bring the bike after the purchase

  • Well my current (mini) project is to take this [1988 Team Fuji all original] -

Which became this [Mavic open pro CD rear and Open 4 CD front in place of Araya Tubs, new saddle (original too nice to ride!) and new bars (originals to long and flexible to ride!)] -

And switch the bars to Profile Airwings with Dia Compe TT levers and Cane Creek cross levers.

Really nice, should look good when you get the airwings on, love the colours.

  • my latest build, still need to change the pedals at some point, not sure whether to go with double straps or spd's.

and once it's finished hopefully i'll be able to get it out on the track and use it for what its made for.

Pulled this out of a life destined for the skip last night, but tell me this. In your opinion are those forks bent?

I googled a few pictures of Raleigh Flyers and they look similar, but I am not sure they should be like that??
