  • Where are these pics taken? I'm sure I've been there

its outside the law courts in Southsea- I used to ride them in the golden days of the King of Concrete road trips in the 90s

  • Those banks are well famous.

  • hey guys, been lurking for a while, thought i better post.

since i became unemployed last year i was using my BMX (DK General Lee) to get everywhere, but doing 30+ miles standing on a bmx ruins your elbows, so i built a really crap, go anywhere single speed out of bits i found...

i loved this so much that i decied to build a nicer fixed gear (on a very strict budget)

so picked up a 80s Raleigh record (sprint? not sure as it had no decals) frame and a box of spares for £20

and built this so far.. and yes i killed a puppy? or did i as it was crap anyway?

it currently still has the rear cog set as its stripped inside and i couldnt get it off for love nor money, so i may sell some of the spares i didnt use (4 stems, some drops, risers, saddles, clips etc) to fund a new wheel build.

the spec at the mo (remembering it cost £20) is

-Frame and Fork - Raleigh Record
-Saddle and Seatpost - Unknown hard as thing with QR
    -Stem - ITM quill
-Bars - SR sakae custom road champ (the ones with the gold bit)
-Brake - gold, not sure tbh with unknown leaver (i have wienmann ones, do i swap?)
-cranks - Sugino GT and 52t chainwheel (not gold)
-Pedals - unknown german (will get retention when i go fixed)
    -Chain - KMC High Power
    -Wheels -Weinmann 700c
-Front Tyre - WTB All Terrain (i like treaded front/slick rear from my BMXing Days)
-Rear Tyre - Michelin Transworld City

once its fixed i will strip it down and powder coat/paint, but for now im loving riding a real bike.

sorry for the essay guys and any C+C with be happily recieved. :)

  • Actually the wheel I got is a russian JUN trispoke I got of ebay.
The spin was just the that looked most like it in pedalmafia.com
This is the one I got, and it´s pretty lightweight.

I think these days it is necessary to paint pink paint these tri spokes otherwise it just aint cool.

    Cheers

  • Got the wank 90's paint off the lugs and the rubbish vinyl decals off the down tube.

    Before #31983

    welcome to the Carlton Club

  • Just finished the Tifosi nice frame was going to have it powdercoated but its quite a nice finish as it is Planet x forks which are really tight clearance may ned some smaller tyres, dura ace crank, dura ace hubs laced to cxp33,Thomson post and stem.

  • I just updated this bike with parts bought here. I think the derailleur hanger is bent because I cannot get it to shift on the highest gear (smallest cog). I took the limit screw all the way out and undid the shifter cables but the chain will not go on that gear. The bike has a 7 speed rear with 3 speed hub. the 8 speed shifters work well with the hub/derailleur combo. I also got some veloce skeleton brakes to match the architectural theme of the frame but the reach is too short by about 2 mm. Tempted to drill the brakes to make it fit but I don't think that would be safe. so the brakes are for sale. It is supposed to be my bike to lock up, hope that thieves are not attracted to small wheel bikes.

  • Nice Moulton. Don't leave it anywhere. It'll get nicked.
How much do you want for the brakes, are they silver? I might be interested.

£45 they are brand new. I just put them on to see that the reach is too short. See pictures here:

  • Where did you get this bar tape from?

  • Right, I'll have a think. Cheers.

-Brake - gold, not sure tbh with unknown leaver (i have wienmann ones, do i swop

BMX lever sitting on the flats would look good

  • i just picked this up for £40

as i needed a tourer, it needs some work but here's the plan

This is my current ride, not the best picture and its changed slighty since, i hate that white chain

    it started out like this

I'm gonna build the tourer up to match the single speed so i have two bikes near identical, different geometry and things but near identical colour set ups as i'm an arse and i think that would be Rad,

  • Almost there....

And jesus christ, the camera on an iphone is shocking...

  • i know it's a stupid and essentially very minor personal niggle but it does annoy me when people build lovely looking bikes then don't take a straight side on shot - for some reason I never feel i can get a proper sense of how it all comes together/geo etc without one.

    that aside, love build chris!

    Just for you nefarious

Yeah, the law courts are just at the end of my street. Shame King of Concrete got shut down. Portsmouth City Council really let the skatepark go for a few years. I think they thought that they could run it into the ground and shut it down at one point but everyone in the local community kicked off and they're slowly sorting it out now so maybe they'll bring it back one day.

97was the best year for me. I was 16 and it was sooo rad

    much better!

    XD
