  • Alright, can anyone put me in the direction of getting a 1 1/8th quill stem?

  • Look like this one it is then, ta!

  • they ain't gonna be pretty.

  • Of course they're not, Just need to get it powdercoated Oxide Red and I'll be on my way, bit annoyed that my current stem can't accept an on-one midge bar.

In other news, frame mounted rack are fucking awesome, much better than the fork mounted one (and removable to boot), though it does cause the frame to shimmy a bit at 15+mph.

    Going to send it off to get it powdercoated to match the rest of the bike;

  • Tight clearances. Needs to be converted to a fixie, Tel.

  • Tight clearances. Needs to be converted to a fixie, Tel.

Tight! As it is the front wheel ovelaps the downtube!! It's just a straight forward fork swap, my mate was almost in tears when he's son brought the Duell home like this and so was I when he brought it to me for repair...

  • Most important is that his son is ok (is he?). It looks like a hell of an impact.

  • His son injured his shoulder but yeah nothing broken and yeah it was my first question ;)

  • Ok so whilst I've got the camera out and shifting a few bikes about here are my other current projects:

1953 AS Gillott - Building as a 1x6 or 7 as a commuter. Paint is not original it's just been rattlecanned, quite well though. Group is 600 Arabesque with old parts like the brooks, GB stem and bars.

But although the Gillott is nearly complete now I may shift it (or convert to fixed) because I'm gunna breath some new life into:

My 1985 Raleigh Competition. Had this since 1992'ish and was the first quality bike I built (got the frame from Hearne Hill Jumble). It's been hanging in the garage for years. I sold the Campag bits that I had on it and replaced it with 600 Ultegra which has also been robbed for bikes I have built for others.

Can't decide how to build it. The condition is not brilliant anymore so it's not up for restoration. I have the Sachs New Success with the best looking rear mech ever which I'm tempted to put on but I also have a Campag Mirage Ergo group I'm tempted to fit for practicality....(erming towards Mirage at the mo)

And finally my latest aquirement my Columbus Max framed Duell with mainly Campag Chorus 8 speed groupset. Just wanna change a few things like the bars and stem, saddle and seatpost, headset, etc nothing major. It's just so very different this one and hopefully a future classic.

  • [Crashed Duell]

    OSCC
    slashes wrists

  • there are two different spd cleats, multi release and single.
never had an unclipping with the singles, used to get the odd one with mutli's

I know that.. I only used single release.. Still had unclips when the cleats had been used for some time..

I guess that with multirelease they would have unclipped first time trying to skid.

  • Result.

discovered that my mum's bike have 1 1/8th quill stem as well, not as nice as the one that came with the bike but netherless perfect for the Midge bar.

    The F.U. (Fuckest Uppest);

  • that is special. what saddle is that?

  • what saddle is that?

    Rido

  • Are you sure you need shallow drops like Midge, Ed?

Cargo bikes are usually ok with (not too long) moustache kind.

And who slagged me off for having aero brake levers on Nitto track bars? The above looks even more wonky and no comment? Shame on you :-P

  • I actually like the look, H.

But then, some don't. I don't get how someone can find levers on Nitto B123A wonky - they felt perfect.

  • midge bars are designed for drop levers.

They might be designed for them, but they still look weird.

  • :-)

  • They might be designed for them, but they still look weird.

agree to have different opinions/ onions?
    I think they'd look daft with anything else..but can't find a photo.
    also, they're bloody comfy.

  • Midge bar look sceptical as fuck, like Hippy on a bicycle (I seemed to be making a lots of hippy-based reference recently).

Test rode H's Freakhouse with the Midge bar, was pretty surprised to find it very comfortable, especially on the drop, and it's pretty wide too, also the rack is mounted on the frame instead of the fork, so handling shouldn't be a problem under load.

Cargo bikes are usually ok with (not too long) moustache kind.

    There's a reason why it's called the F.U.

it's not only it's an utility bike, but an MTB and touring bike, it's design to do pretty much everything it can be thrown at, apart from racing naturally.

  • Quick question, is there's such thing as a fixed hubs with disc brake mount?

  • I do not think so.
