  • Noob alert. I'm biting the bullet and laying myself bare in front of the LFGSS hyenas.. please be gentle.

Here's what I'm currently working on. I picked it up for £18, in this state:

I was going to bid on this! I cocked up last minute and forgot to log in to eBay. I was going to come in last second with a ninja bid. Oh well, glad it went to a forumenger :)

    Are you a local (Warwickshire)?

  • Black tape Joe, you know it makes sense

There you go Joe, a more compelling reason for going with white tape does not exist. :P

Reach out with your feelings, Joe...

Black it is... Cheers, G... Was having a moment of doubt there, strange feeling...

  • What size is the Romet anyway? This is ridiculous but I'm going to second dibs it anyway. :)

    Haha be my guest :) it's 54x54

  • white tape. the lizard skin stuff.
i think they only sell white in italy, either that or the euro-fluro multicoloured stuff.

  • A little bit of tweaking, and here she is, all 50 quid of her.

What a bargain! If you sell it on, give me a heads-up.

I'm glad you didn't, it was a bargain. I'm from Shropshire, but I live in Leicester currently... If I ever part with it, I'll give you first dibs!

  • Thats not even a particularly low polo gear, Im running 36/22 on my polo/everything bike . spin spin spin.

Ha. I find 45/16 too light - but i do have to ride downhill 2-3 miles wherever I head from mine - 45/14 is just right for long downhills but is seriously hard work when it comes to riding back up, 45/16 is just right for coming back up. I'm a big lad and skids in the dry can be like riding a bucking bronco.

  • so... 45/15 then?

  • so... 45/15 then?

Only 1 skid patch. I know, not usually one of my concerns, but still.

3:1 is Calshot track gearing, not general tooling around gearing.

  • so... 45/15 then?

nah still too high for the ups - the worst hill i have to come up i find only just possible with 45/16 - you know the feeling when your using your entire body just to force the pedal round. Yeah and 1 skid spot wouldn't be any good, well it would be 2 but still not ideal.

    What's Calshot? forgive my ignorance.

It might be a high gear but like i said riding down long hills with anything much lower isn't fun at all.

  • Calshot is a velodome.

    perhaps try freewheel?

  • a velodrome near S'ton, its like a blender, every track rider should experience it at least once in their cycling career,

  • i've got a bike with gears if i want to coast - I'm happy with the gearing on my fixed bike, just finding a balance - couldn't understand how anyone could ride something as light as 32-22 as i'd find it too slow.

I'm a velovirgin... there's manchester up here but it's a trek. Is it a good laugh then?

Are there restrictions on crank length? read something about having to use 165mm?

  • wow MT i didn't realize you have a blog, i'm a constant reader from now
and wtf is with avatar again?..

  • and wtf is with avatar again?..

Just showing off - that's me riding in a National Championship race

Don't worry, by blog is as boring as hell, you'll soon give up.

Re avatar, awaiting high resolution, will be on my blog when I get it.

  • Set the nelson up for my first tt this thursday. 14mile hilly route so the gears 73 in for the test run tomorrow. Would rather spin down the hills than grind up them

  • Built myself a single speed runabout seem to be using less gears the more I go on the track.
