  • started the bike for my lady project, based on a pretty darn rare f&f methinks.

must be careful not to cut my fingers on the seatpost lug... once I find a 4.5mm allen key (and a 7mm for the stem, and a French crank pulling device, sigh...)

anyone ever seen a seatpost like this one btw?

Oeffff! Nice, love those fastback seat-stays! And for a nr.7 imbus you just have to go to your local hardware supplier. I just bought a Gedore one here in Eindhoven for E1,80. They mostly have all exotic sizes over here. If you need one, give me a call!!

  • The singular of criteria is criterion, hence my piss taking over your (common) malapropism.

my grasp of your language may be poor in your opinion, but i gathered that much, thanks again

    let's talk bikes

@ shame: off to the hardware store i am :)

Your grasp of my language is fine - good enough that I didn't even know you were not writing in your native tongue. Mixing up criterium and criterion is common among native English speakers.

  • you better do smthn with those spacers etc!.. maybe get a bigger frame if you're up for that sit-up-and-beg-style?

very long legs, very short arms - it's a feature of all my bikes.

    think..

  • Clefty, can we have a run down on the spec. I'm still lusting after something very similar. Ta.

    Spec as follows:

    Surly Crosscheck 58cm
Shimano 8 speed Alfine Rear on Shimano hub (prebuilt) - with quickfire changer (perferred to twist grip)
DT Swiss TKS40 rim on deore hub
    Shimano Alfine Crankset 45T
    Shimano Deore V Brakes
Cane Creek VP Pro Comp Headset
    On-One Mary Bars
    truvativ stem
    no-name seatpost
    Tubus vega rear rack
Schwalbe 32c marathon plus front and rear.

Not being used to the wide bars, its taken a while to get used to my new width - but they are great for climbing hills, and really comfortable to ride. The whole ride is very smooth and silent, and its surprisingly easy to manouvre - the front is really light and strong as well

The Surly Crosscheck are actually meant to have that much spacer, usually touring bike (although it's a mixture of everything) as a guideline tend to have a higher cockpit than usual for comfort.

    it's also why the crosscheck measurment is unusual, a 54cm have a 56cm top tube, a 56 have a 57cm top tube etc., simply because it's build with lots of spacer in mind (higher the handlebar, closer it is to you);

  • Claire, why the Alfine over the Nexus? I was getting the Alfine, but was told it's not worth it over the Nexus since I don't run disc.

  • That GT is very nice, good work jambon... :]

??? Wouldn't it be better to have a short top tube for the frame size, that way the headtube/seat tube would be longer which would raise the cockpit up. In fact what you really need is a compact frame with a very long headtube but retaining some standover (as the top tube would slope down).

Mainly on Nhatt's recommendation - there are quite a few who use them in BC and they have nothing but good things to say about them, I've heard they are more efficient as well and easier shifting under load. Nhatt's getting the 11 speed when it comes out I think, but I couldn't wait that long.

  • finally got round to building up the don walker this afternoon - almost finished after some swearing involving the octalink cranks - just need to put on the chain, and then later a DA headset, stem and new seatpost (current one being shimmed within a 1.6mm of its life) and i'm set

  • nice work, was that on ebay recently? pretty frame
