It looks much better in pictures then in real life, but just the way I like it, lots of scratches but no dings.Anyone know where I can find classic looking chrome/silver 28h clinchers?

^exactly my buddies question couple of weeks ago! asnwer is - not on this forum :(

• #28006
The bike originally has 26" wheels, so I'm wondering will it run with the front brake and 700c. Or should i rebuild the original rim fixed or coaster?
-
• #28007
Do you mean 27"? If so it should run 700C with a long drop brake.

Have any of you guys heard of a Mal Rees? I've got an old Mal Rees track bike thats been in the family for around 20 - 25 years. Can anyone tell me if this is rare/good. It's in mint condition......

• #28009
I don't think it is the tires have 26 on um, hmm

Okay, well with 700c you may have clearance and brake issues.

Yeah, clearance looks to be okay but I think the brake may prove troublesome. I'm thinking i may run it on the 26's with a coaster
-
• #28013
i ran a 26" with 700c wheels and found some breaks that were ok, had to look for so long though to find ones that fit

• #28014
some 90s single pivots, poss 105, should be fine with the 27s. Toe overlap amy be a prob, but not so much if youre running freewheel. You'll also have a high bottom bracket, which of course is good for running fixed.

My evil bike.. designed to eat nature.
In short, it's a Karate Monkey with LX gears + cranks + hubs, Magura HS33 brakes.
Whats left of the project is fixing a minor problem with the rear derailleur resulting in it not shifting very fast and being a bit noisy..
I think may be the chain is just a little bit too long (moved from previous frame that had a bit longer wheelbase). Oh, and I need to fit a plug in the bar, only the right side is missing one :) -

Here's a pic of my new build. Had this frame for ages but only just got around to finishing it. Thanks to Brixton Cycles for help with the headset dilemma.

My new toy...finished last night, finally.

• #28019
Nice one Gav! See you managed to sort out the magic gear then...
-
• #28020
Yeah, after a bit of faffing around. 47/17 is about as close as I can get it, thankfully it's decent gear to get around on too. You coming to souths tonight?
-
• #28021
Should be, depends how much work I have going on. It's more than likely though...

that roberts^ is pretty nice.
So is Jaygee's. He must be rather pleased.
Bollocks, I've got the old head.
The metal one is fine as long as you're careful with the rubber seal inside. If it tears a bit, then the problems I mentioned get worse.
I reckon a little call to Parker (or whoever you bought from) might get you the new part ordered. They really oughtn't sell them to presta users. Tell em!

Vintage 28 hole clinchers are quite hard to find. There's a few Mavics that come up on Ebay but they are usually the grey anodized variety.
