I actually think Ed explanation is correct.
If you search Major Taylor Stem all will be explained, worth doing as Major Taylor was one of the most interesting characters of early track racing

In the years to come many a young cyclist will flip their bars on their way to and from work to honour that old man who used to cycle down Greys Inn...

My LH pedal had somehow unscrewed itself so it was on the very last thread, so when I cranked hard from the lights it just stripped a thread straight out of the Miche cranks. Cheese.
Surely this doesn't mean they're cheese - if the pedal was on the last thread, of course it was going to strip!

Mr Mather sent some pics of his bike, along with the following blurb
I thought you might enjoy the attached photo's. I think I've got the bead blaster all set up now after some messing around with air pressures and bead sizes. I've also been playing with etching the graphics onto the frame instead of decals. The decals are apparently underway but it's good to have alternatives. What do you think?

i am in love with the totally simple, reduced uncluttered style he is going for
just leaving me feeling v v excited but fuck, patience is a virtue much better expressed in other people than me

max - how does riding feel with those tyres? I thin they are marathon plus from the photo are they not super super heavy in 40c? I recently got some maxxis overdrive pros in 40c, they are pretty light but I don't think the rear will last too long.

Lovely Mather, Dancing James.
Here is my new Interpro w/Nagasawa ends and lugs. Columbus Keirin (cromo) triple butted tubing.
Dura Ace cranks, Phil Wood/IRD wheels, Hatta bb.
Waiting for a Dura Ace seat post and also a Nitto stem and drops.
It rides beautifully - I did have edscoble's Bob Jackson, but it was just too soft and relaxed for me.
I'm looking for a clamp on brake if anyone has one? and I'll put a better photo up later.
