I've just bought another old Raleigh. A Raleigh Record to be more specific and I want to find some more into out about it. I haven't picked it up yet so I don't even know which steel it's made of! I have the serial number (HD0071526) but I think my search skills are getting worse with time and can't find out much about it. I know that it was made in Handsworth in March 1980 but I don't know anything about that actual bike. Any info, or links to pages that could help, would be great. Pics will follow when I get the bike and give it a clean up.

Raleigh records are a medium range raleigh. Nothing special, they are usually made of 501 and have rear dropouts prone to cracking and fork crowns prone to bending. They have decent alloy parts on them, especially the cranks. The black ones with all gold parts are the most memorable version and do look pretty spiffing. There are some versions with aero tubing and curved seatube. In a typical raleigh way, they have this interesting lanky geometry, where the frames are kind of tall looking. My one rode beautifully till I snapped the dropout.

Velocio, can you weed out the pseudonyms please? When I let rip on some aerospike demanding twat I want to know it's not a hilarious forum joke.

Getting the drivechain together for the 29er. Installed the rear belt cog on the Hope pro SS/trails hub, and a accurate 50mm
chainelinebeltline was really easy to achive. Fitted the front beltring to my aerozine cranks arms, and it fitted perfectly.Only one little worry left. The frame doesent have total clearance for the fat rear tyre, so the inner 5mm of the trackend (slotted dropout?) is unusable. Hopefully I will only need this part of the trackend for installation (the belt length sure aint adjustable).
It all seems remarkably light, and feels really solid. Just need to recieve my BB cups to finish setting it up. Very excited about this one.

its genius, taking photos of two bikes and then claiming they're 1.
nice twin Dave Marsh's
they ride like dreams----
sigh.Completely missed this first time 'round. It looks like my bike's (too) close cousin, the one it always kinda fancied but didn't know why because it was too young to understand, but now they're all grown up...

We should never meet each other whilst riding these bikes, there could be all manner of repressed memories and awkwardness that surface.

Sorry for pissing the framebuilder off, but that leak hole (?) in the fork blade could have been placed perfectly in one of the dropout holes.
Nice spade, where is that going to be? Head tube logo ? Something behind it? -

aren't the fork legs pre-drilled?
As far as I know, they aren't.
But even then, it's possible to fill them (or use them as dynamo or low rider bosses ;-) ). -

Finished my bike today, I was so excited I took it out for a little spin in the snow. Found out 54 is too small for me :(
Gutted. If anyone wants to swap for a 56, PM me

Assuming your saddle height in that photo is correct for your leg length, you'll probably need a 58cm, not a 56cm.
