• A reasonable amount of money, almost enough to fund a Thomson seatpost.

I seen it sell for between £30 to £70 (the latter's from ebay).

thats what i thought... they seem to go for £40-£50 on ebay..

Shiny Campag seat posts command higher prices than non-shiny ones. Get polishing.

i allready have! it doesn't really show in the photos though.

• Too much black Rob

you can never have too much black rob

YouTube- Black Rob WHOA videoclip

• Nice one, Bobby... Don't forget to keep the box...

Hahaha repped :D

Looks really good Rob

• Finished the Pinarello.. just need to get some track friendly tyres.

i promised myself i wouldn't ride it on the road.... but i can't resist when it's nice and sunny outside!

Black chainring bolts?

BTW... Nice!

Saw you/it in the flesh friday lunchtime, somewhere near the city, I think.

• He's put the tyre on back to front. Basic error especially for someone 'who has built/modified his own frame'

I made this "basic error" because i just don´t care enough about stuff that has little to no effect. Half a bar diffrence in tire pressure will have a much much much bigger effect and if you dont pump up your tires daily...blablabla

Right: nice clean soldering of the lugs
Wrong: transition head tube - head set - forks

Thanks about the soldering part. In respect to the fork, i know. But 26" 1-1/8" Forks are hard to get by, and that bike was done on a really thight budget. It cost under 600 pound in material (including powdercoating) the way it is now and all the parts but the saddle are new and I was still abled to maintain a certain level of quality. Once my framebuilding skills are better i will build a nice lugged stell fork for it, but don´t hold your breath, it´s gona be a while.

• But 26" 1-1/8" Forks are hard to get by, and that bike was done on a really thight budget.

Plenty of these forks available from TWN, but maybe not for ordinary people in the UK.
I may have a nice one though.

Otherwise, you still could use a 1" version with the right headset (conversion model for 1" steerer / 1-1/8" headtube)

• The clearance on that bike look perfectly fine with the 28c, what are you not convince about? and is the conti contact reasonably grippy or slipperly in the wet?
I need to take a photo of my Holdsworth (can't believe I finally own one) with both the 27" and the 700c wheel on it. the 700c with 28c tyres is ironically bigger.
SJS have some 27" rims if you're looking for some, even some with deep V section.

It wasn't exactly my plan to use 28c (front at least), the idea of a spare wheelset though might influence my choice, dunno. These are obvs not the wheels I'll use, it's just to test!!
I've seen everything at SJS, too expensive and not what i'm after, I found rigida anyway (pair) for the price of 1 jalco at SJS.

@ Nuknow. That bike is clearly made for 700c.

Clearly not, how many (real) track bikes use 28c tires? (grass track maybe). There's still a bit under 1cm left of clearance with the 700c x 28c...

I know I can get anything I want for almost no money at all from Taiwan, problem is, I want one fork, not 50. I also considered the 1" solution for some time but I couldn find a nice one for reasonable money with a steerer tube long enough for my bike. I also though about having one custom made, but I didn´t want to spend that kind of money. If you, or anyone reading this, could hook me up with a nice, reasonably priced fork I would be very happy.

Sorry that came out a bit wrong. I was just wondering how much clearance you would have if you were to put 27inch wheels. I thought track bikes had been using 700c sized wheels for longer than road bikes had. How old is it anyway?

• Here's a sneak preview of my custom build due in the new year. I'm a bit short so head tube lugs are joined in the middle. Lugs, crown and fork dropouts are brushed stainless steel and frame/forks will be gloss black.

• SEX ^^^^

Nice, join the Omega V club :-)

I just did (Omega 19 though(t)), at last!

How old is it anyway?

1970/71... they used to come fitted with Campa NR x Weinmann(27") tubs.

• 27" tubs ARE 700c iirc:

"there's really no such thing as a 27" tubular rim or tire. All full size tubulars are 700c. 700c has a bead seat diameter of 622mm, 27" has a bead seat diameter of 630mm. In the U.S., because the 27" size was so prominent on clincher-equipped road bikes through the mid to late '80's, for marketing purposes some tubulars were labeled 27."

• Finally got this together today.
Bianchi pursuit, welded on trackdrops, Campa record front/backwheel, Laser saddle, polished seatpost, Sugino 75 crankset (for now) etc, etc.
Still waiting for a polished Ofmega crankset, will be posting better pics as soon as it shows up.

• @finepics - Mark, those forks are stunning! Wow.

• @finepics - Mark, those forks are stunning! Wow.

Thanks Andy - he's done a super job, I'm chuffed to **** as you might say!!

• That's going to be a stunner when it's done. I'm quite excited and it's not even my bike!

• Finepics who building the frame and who took the 'finepics' I guess that was you? very goodjob alround !

• Tom Warmerdam who is Demon Frameworks is the builder. He also took the pics!!

The other trick part is the name on the downtube - it's water cut stainless and will be brazed on and brush finished!! I suggested it to him and asked him just to quote me, next thing he'd emailed to say it was cut so I hope the bill isn't doubled as a result - sweating a bit but he's a damn fine guy and we have a good mutual understanding so it might not be too bad. It's my 50th to myself so I want to be worth it!!!

• Looks amazing, Mr finepics, looking forward to seeing the finished build...

• It's due mid-end of January but we all know due dates are never too rigid. Apparently the painters need it for a month.

• Its a work of art that - to do that frame justice - you are going to have to choose components carefully - what do you have in mind?

• 27" tubs ARE 700c iirc:

"there's really no such thing as a 27" tubular rim or tire.

True that, my mistake, just double checked with Sheldon. Anyway, had to be 27" clinchers.

That looks very nice.

• That looks very nice. Are you building yourself? I heard Stainless is quite tricky to braze. Nice Workshop by the way. I would love to have access to one like that. What kind of jig is that?

^this

Ah those pics look amazing, I remember having a drunken conversation with you about this bike at the Souths bake-off, have you worked out whats going on it yet?
As for the cost, fuck it, its your 50th man!
