  • You don't necessary need 27", you can have 700c with 28c tyres and it's pretty similar to a 27" with skinny tyres, it's a win win if I have 700c.
    Hence why I'm deciding.

Did the test Ed, not sure i'm convinced. I'ld really prefer to have just another set of 700c wheels, but guess 27s are the wisest choice...

  • The clearance on that bike look perfectly fine with the 28c, what are you not convince about? and is the conti contact reasonably grippy or slipperly in the wet?

I need to take a photo of my Holdsworth (can't believe I finally own one) with both the 27" and the 700c wheel on it. the 700c with 28c tyres is ironically bigger.

SJS have some 27" rims if you're looking for some, even some with deep V section.

  • @ Nuknow. That bike is clearly made for 700s.

  • twatty thing to say to someone who has built/modified his own frame.

    Fuck off you quim!

He's put the tyre on back to front. Basic error especially for someone 'who has built/modified his own frame'

  • Depends what you expect from the tyre.
What is correct and what is wrong?
Sometimes it's even better to ignore the by the manufacturer prescribed mounting direction.
E.g. CX tyres Clément Grifo pattern.
You would assume that the point of the arrow or "V" should point forward, when seen the tyre from the top.
But many riders have positive experience with assembling it differently.
The even make difference for front and rear, muddy and dry conditions.
Grip, mud build up on the bike, steering, low rolling resistance, ...
Personally, I must say that I'm such a lousy rider, that it doesn't make any difference to me. Don't notice the difference, as long as the tyre size is correct, as well as the tread and the air pressure.

Perhaps the guy made a mistake, perhaps he did it on purpose.
In this matter, there is no right or wrong.
    And if there is:
Right: nice clean soldering of the lugs
Wrong: transition head tube - head set - forks

Quim not heard that for ages such a great word.

I thought there was a whole song about but it was Quinn.

  • The Mighty Quim? Hilarious... ;D

  • @ polybikeuser: I think that stem's all wrong for your bike... Sell it to me... NOW! Great build... :]

is that a stem for a tandem? not seen extendable stems with the extension facing the rider. it seems ever so slightly dangerous.

    sorry if i missed something.

Less extension would be facing the rider if he had the stem set longer, if that makes sense.

It adjusts in a different fashion to most adjustable stems I've seen

    which negates it then, no?

  • Yes... Sell it to me...

  • put a cinelli quill stem on and sell it to teenslain,,, good idea.

  • Nice one, Bobby... Don't forget to keep the box...

  • Finished the Pinarello.. just need to get some friends to come out to play.

i promised my mum i wouldn't ride it on the road.... but i can't resist when she's round at uncle Joe's!

    Nice.

  • Nice Rob, Mavic Eclipse?

  • ^^^Good stuff^^

  • Too much black Rob. Needs more shiny silver.

  • @ Graham.... yup, mavic ellipse indeed.

@Andy.... once you go black, you don't go back.... and silver is mostly for losers.

i did polish the stem and seatpost though.... but i think i'm gonna put a black thomson layback seatpost, and get a black stem at some point.
how much are the Campag aero seatposts worth?... i'm thinking of selling this one.

  • A reasonable amount of money, almost enough to fund a Thomson seatpost.

I seen it sell for between £30 to £70 (the latter's from ebay).

  • and Tim.... good work, subtle.... i didn't notice at first.
    ... you loser.

  • Nice.

    Reppo'd! ;D

  • Shiny Campag seat posts command higher prices than non-shiny ones. Get polishing.
