Finally got the wheels finished on the Spot 29er. They is massive!
The Geometry/fit seems to have worked out as hoped, and its bloody light. Reckon it'll be a blast to ride on the local mountain trails.I would'nt normaly go for things like white rims, but seems right for an off-roader, nice and tacky. I figured the combination of skinny tubing, fat 29" tyres, and a small frame was always going to produce a freak bike. So why try and hide it ;)
Just wish I could get all the nasty decals of the carbon parts :(

Small, with that belt drive, do you just buy a belt-specific chainring(?) and rear cog(?) and then whack a belt on? Looks like a standard hub to me...
Presumably the frame breaks at the dropout there to let you get belts in/out?
Bonkers. Looks great fun though.

Gates do comaptible belt sprockets for standard free-hubs, and some geared hubs. The sprocket slides on like any other.
That rear hub is a SS/trials hub, with an extra short free-hub body to produce an undished wheel (space for only 6 sprockets max not the usual nine).
The break you can see in the rear drop-out is part of thick plate that screws off.
Hopefully it will be bonkers fun ;)

Finally finished the renovations on my 50's bike. All original except the stem which I replaced because it got damaged during removal. I had to fit the following new items-chain, tyres and bar tape. I had the cranks re-chromed here

Sorry for the crap pictures. I'll get some better ones outside when the weather improves.

Finally got all put together! Been out today, for first fixed ride. Big thanks to Jamie at Freshtripe and Will at Hubjub. Also big thanks to Ted.
Just need to get some grips/ bar tape on and some straps.
-
• #19269
how did it go then, and what's the frame?
-
• #19270
It was good, thanks. Really enjoyed it. As i said i need to get some straps for the cages, but I found it ok, obviously the front brake helped! The frame is just a Ribble road frame that SuperTed put some track ends on for me.
