  • I'll have them mask off the rear triangle.

  • I personally think it would be a massive shame to powdercoat over a chromed rear triangle, especially as the original paintjob is fairly unique and doesn't look damaged.

if you want to 'tone down' the paint job then just change the bar tape and brake hoods (if you're using them) to black. Oh and get a silver seatpost, the black one looks wank with the chromed rear triangle.
IMO this will make it look much less 'camp' as you put it.
Do I need to add the obligatory 'don't fix it up, leave the gears' comment?

  • Vittoria randonneur Trail 38s.
Cheap as chips and real nice.
I spent from about 8 till whenever I posted this up goofing around on putney common.

thanks man. Surly say they steamrollers can take tyres "up to about 38mm" so I might give them a go, and try to find a few more chain links so they'll fit.

  • t-4003, do it, I love the look of Steamrollers with huge tyres. Mine has 28s on it now.

Henry, GH2 looks sick, can't wait to see it properly.

  • why needless to say?
*that paint job is rad to the power of sick!!!!!**
    Seriously, don't paint it.**
you'll only regret it down the line.
    plus *red bikes are shit****.

    • You can say that again!
      ** +1
***Don't push your luck, red bikes are faster. FACT!
  • @IRLeo,

your bike looks awesome! what grips are you repping on the risers? are they Soyo? I need some...

    fat tyres plus;

I'm really tempted to sell one of my bike to fund a Surly Steamroller for that kind of build, riding on fat tyres is really comfortable and almost indestructible.

What a peach! Is that yours Ed?

  • No, it's straight from Flickr, great idea for the surly steamroller thought.

  • @ Arantrek, they are champ grips, got some soyo's on one of my other bikes, i like them both. I'm pretty sure the planet x site sells both. oh and cheers, i'm loving it too

Yeah, the black seatpost is going, gears are staying and I don't know what I'm going to do with the tape and hoods but they are definately not staying as they are.

  • I love how adaptable they are. that looks really nice ed. doesn't someone on here have one with some really sweet colour coded guards and some added braze ons?

  • Talking about Surly fat tyred fun!!

  • first njs part! DA lockring, also got a 18t velosolo cog, both absolutely lush.

cog feels soooo much lighter than my 16t blb one, as is a lot nicer!

will be spinning 69 GI now.

  • 69 GI - perfect. I have the same on my Surly.

Post a photo of yours, I wanna see how its coming along.

  • IT'S Finished!!!!!!!!!!!

you down at RPM tonight? i'm going down later so you may see it.

  • Just ordered some crank arms for the 29er.

Aerozine arms stripped and custom ceramic coated. Teamed with a Hope tech ceramic BB and a gates carbon belt ring. They will tough, light, and cheap(ish). Stick that in your pipe Bonti

  • Hi, long time reader, fist time poster.

  • home made by you?? Looks great.

  • Did you build that yourself? nice job! the chain stay look a bit strange, is it horizontal? it look like the end is pointing downward.

  • I wish my home was like the place i build it at. The chainstays are like that (BB drop 1,8 cm) because it´s Ertro 571 and has a high bottom bracket (~29cm).

it looks like a combination of high BB and low c-stay/track end joint.

  • Minor adjustments needed. And foot retention. That's it.
