However, Is it really in keeping with current projects? All other current projects on here you couldn't just go out and buy.....but if anyone has a loose £3,000 lying about they could order this bike (in parts) off of the internet right this minute.....was there a challenge in building this?
Sorry to be such a bore....and yes there is lots of jealousy involved in my post.... Have i just got it all wrong??!!
Yes, in a nutshell, you have got it all wrong. Almost every one on here has gone out and bought their frames from somewhere, be it ebay or a jumble or from a retailer. I don't think it matters one iota where the frame came from, instead this thread is about the thought process and choices made in putting together a bike.

+1, rarity, intrigue and anecdote don't have to come into it. It's not that serious, relax.

Just need an 7mm allen key to tighten some stuff. Any one got one? Are they easy to find? All mine are even numbers.

@ Crispin, Is there's no way you can replace the allen bolt for an imperial one?

Firstly, I want to make clear that this bike is "my kinda" bike....and would gladly swap it for any of mine.....Its a good looking man bike!!!

It was kind of a tongue in cheek post, but still a valid project I think?
It took me about a year to get it like that, front wheel from spain, back wheel for beijing via ireland, find bits cheap, put them on. And there are still bits to be done, so still a project. It is in every sense my 'Current Project' bike.

Some German and Swedish cars use them in their suspension assembly's, so you should be able to find one at a GSF parts dealer.

The most satisfying projects are the ones where you're willing to wait to get it just right, and cheaper than anyone could imagine.
It does take some discipline and skill.
Great bike!

No, not easy to find a 7mm allen key.
For Campy chain set, I guess?
Got one, supplied with the product I think. But doesn't help you, since I'm in NL.

@mr glover, don't listen to ed. 7mm alan keys are easier to find than an imperial equilivant.

I get the impression that might be harder than just finding a 7mm allen key. It's a 3T stem and I need to tighten two bolts.

i got a 7mm allen key from a place near golden square, on brewer street opposite taro ish.

Yes it is, am I asking for the right tool here?
-
• #18549
You are not being a tool.
7 mm allen keys are a lot easier to find than 3.5 mm allen keys.

• #18550
Yep, if it's not raining.
Buy me a pint and it's yours.
A can is ok.
