  • All I'm saying is edsquabble's crown is at risk.

  • agreed

  • @Braker.
I think your frame looks spot-on for a tall guy frame. I agree with MrSmyth, but we're only talking about a cm or two on the HT.

Tall folk usually have a larger saddle to bar drop then that (like I would know, at 5'7"). So the frame looks taller than usual.

My reasons for looking at a custom design were the opposite. To try and tweak the top tube slope to protect my bits while not having a bike that looks like a kids/girls bike. As well as tweaking the HT angle to the best balance of handling and reduced toe overlap.

  • Yeah 60cm would be a tiny bit small, what is it?

Ved, I can understand that but to be comfortable in the drops using a standard quill stem on a lugged frame I can't be that high up above the bike

Did that Merckx sell? It was a 63 right...

  • Because the frame is not good. Would you put phils on a unipack?

I have Phils on my Bianchi, how it's not a good frame?

Its not just any old fork like the frame is any old frame.
I don't understand how you could own such a lovely fork, with history and skill behind it and be content to whack it on a nasty frame? Its a really weird mis-match. I'm not saying that its the grand daddy of all forks, but its just off. Like putting a bianchi pista fork on a 3rensho frame. In that instance you are just putting any old fork or not-just-any-old frame. Its off.

you know what the fork design to do? hold the wheel, regardless of the history, skill, and the like it's still design to hold a fucking wheels.

And since when Bianchi Pista are shit? fair enough they are expensive nowadays, but it was a decent frame, and the only thing shit about it is simply the weight of the frame.

frankly I don't think you're doing BLB any favour spouting some nonsense about bicycles.

  • I'd rather put phils on my unipack then shit wheels on a nice frame.

  • Did that Merckx sell? It was a 63 right...

Think it was a 62cm - and old blue eddy bought it. Lucky bastard!

  • the bits for the "sinner" Pista, minus seatpost, saddle, chain and pedals:

I will explain why I have two sets and why the set with Schwalbes has a 650 front wheel when I mount them.

  • Kinda obvious that one of them is the standard Pista wheelset with tough tyres and the other one is the lightweight track one.

    street and track use?

  • DA ninja! That bike will look sweet.

  • I will explain why ...when I mount them.

That is a very good strategy that has also helped me a lot in my personal life. Bukowski would be proud.

which frame? i prefer the sloping TT style...looks awesome, & what's wrong with bulls on that? bulls would mean a less of a drop and a variety of hand positions for comfort, plus on the ends of the bulls you could get nice a low when you feel like it.

Doesn't really explain why one has a 650 front and one has a 700....

    Barspins?

  • almost :)

the second wheelset is composed of Gran Compe's plus Velocity Dyad for the rear and Velocity Aeroheat (sorry, I said 650, but it is 26''). this wheelset is for street/dirty-tracks/riding-with-the-missus, and I'm mounting 35's on the rear and 1.35 on the front, that's why I have to use a 26'' wheel, to get it to fit on the fork.

sure I'd like to have two bikes, but the missus said "nono". so this is the solution I have until that moment.

FTR: 51cm frameset painted with headset and BB is 2.990 grs. or 6,6 pounds.

Sounds like a good solution! Guess the chunky tyre will mean your BB doesn't drop too much?

    ~6mm., not much I think.

  • I don't think you can mount 35c on the back, hasn't tried it thought.

why 26 for street? surely 700c would be enough on London's famous London.

  • 35's will fit on the back but the sidewalls come super tight, same happens with the front. I will post photos when done (paint is not hard enough for now).

I don't understand what you mean with 700c being enough, I can't put more than 700/25c with that fork.

  • Make sense, I only just managed to put 25c on my old one.

BLB are a paragon of taste, style and technical excellence.

I understand exactly what you're doing, me and Marty, when desiging the GH2 discussed this for a while, and came up with the conc that 26 + 2" tyres roughly = 700c
but you have to have wider spaced forks and stays, to accomodate tyre width.
good luck bro, lets see some finished photos.

  • I'm still lol'ing at the advice being given to Braker on his frame. I'm not sure how serious Harry was when he mentioned risers but he can't have been as serious as Sam (Braker) is about actually doing some miles.

Braker - not that you need any assurance or anything but your bike will be awesome and it'll fit! Bikes for tall people look a bit odd and they always will do to me. Who gives a shit though!? Whatever you end up getting I hope you get plenty of glorious and comfortable miles in on it. Risers...

  • Risers...

Partridge in the same way he says "this country..."

  • with reguards to Braker's big bike, is the main draw back with having such a large frame that it will flex more than a smaller frame? I'm sure i've seen somehwere a big bike with an extra tube (like on the back of a tandem, or on one of these kona's (not the best example).

    http://www.konaworld.com/bike.cfm?content=humu

if it's made of decent matieral would the added weight be worth it for added stiffness?

  • I'm sure i've seen somehwere a big bike with an extra tube (like on the back of a tandem, ............blah ..........blah.......stiffness?
